Without further ado, here are my top 5 books to get you out of a reading slump.

1) We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

16143347-1“A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.”

This is a book that I instantly knew I had to include on this list. I read this book when I was in a reading slump myself, on the way to my holiday last year. I hadn’t read a book in over three weeks and I had picked this one just to try it. It is a short read and one that you want to not put down once you are into it. This book got me out of my reading slump, it has also got my friends out of their reading slumps, as well as my younger sister.

2) The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

11870085“Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.”

I know by know must people have read this book and has their own opinions on it. But, this is another book that got me out of my own reading slump. I just remember sitting down and starting to read it and the next thing I can remember I had finished it within the day. I went straight into reading another book after I had finished this one. So, I feel like this book would be a good one to read to get you out of a reading slump.

3) Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

8“My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.”

Now this has to be a book to get you out of a reading slump. Once you start reading this book you will just not want to put it down, be that when you are just getting out of a reading slump or not. I am pretty positive I bought this book whilst I was in a reading slump because of the recommendation of how easily it would take you out of one.

4) Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

41hB6RMAWdL._SX320_BO1,204,203,200_Eleanor… Red hair, wrong clothes. Standing behind him until he turns his head. Lying beside him until he wakes up. Making everyone else seem drabber and flatter and never good enough…Eleanor.

Park… He knows she’ll love a song before he plays it for her. He laughs at her jokes before she ever gets to the punch line. There’s a place on his chest, just below his throat, that makes her want to keep promises…Park.”

I feel as though this book would get you out of a reading slump because of how short of a read it is. I think going into a huge book after a reading slump is daunting so I always seem to pick shorter books. This is one of them. I enjoyed it so much that I have read it a few times now. If you are like me and go for shorter books when in a reading slump then this is definitely one for you.

5) Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell

26365537.jpg“If you broke Elena’s heart, Star Wars would spill out. So when she decides to queue outside her local cinema to see the new movie, she’s expecting a celebration with crowds of people who love Han, Luke and Leia just as much as she does. What she’s not expecting is to be last in a line of only three people; to have to pee into a collectible Star Wars soda cup behind a dumpster or to meet that unlikely someone who just might truly understand the way she feels.”

I think this is a cheeky one to put into this list. Rainbow Rowell released this book for World Book Day in 2016 and it is only 90 pages long. But I feel as though again shorter books are better when in a reading slump. This book is a perfect little read, you can read it very easily in a night. Then after reading it you will definitely want to read another book.
