Top 5 Wednesday: Books for your Hogwarts House

screen-shot-2017-01-25-at-15-31-26

Hi all, it’s Lois, hope you are doing well. This weeks Top 5 Wednesday is all about books for your Hogwarts House. I am a proud Ravenclaw! So, these books will be be for all the Ravenclaws out there.

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly challenge, find the Goodreads group here.

Without further ado, here are my top 5 books for your Hogwarts House.

1) Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Ravenclaw Special Edition) by J.K Rowling

9781408883778_310317“When a letter arrives for unhappy but ordinary Harry Potter, a decade-old secret is revealed to him that apparently he’s the last to know. His parents were wizards, killed by a Dark Lord’s curse when Harry was just a baby, and which he somehow survived. Leaving his unsympathetic aunt and uncle for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry stumbles upon a sinister mystery when he finds a three-headed dog guarding a room on the third floor. Then he hears of a missing stone with astonishing powers, which could be valuable, dangerous – or both. An incredible adventure is about to begin!”

I had to include this book! These editions of the Philosopher’s Stone were only released last week and I love them. I had the Ravenclaw edition on pre-order. I think it is the perfect way to show off your house colours.

2) Matilda by Roald Dahl

9780141345161-us“Matilda is a little girl who is far too good to be true. At age five-and-a-half she’s knocking off double-digit multiplication problems and blitz-reading Dickens. Even more remarkably, her classmates love her even though she’s a super-nerd and the teacher’s pet. But everything is not perfect in Matilda’s world. For starters she has two of the most idiotic, self-centered parents who ever lived.”

Again, this is another perfect book for Ravenclaw’s. I believe that all Ravenclaws will have a love for reading. So, what is more perfect for a Ravenclaw than a book all about a reader. I feel like this book also contains a lot of the morals that a Ravenclaw possesses.

3) The BFG by Roald Dahl

download (1)“Captured by a giant! The BFG is no ordinary bone-crunching giant. He is far too nice and jumbly. It’s lucky for Sophie that he is. Had she been carried off in the middle of the night by the Bloodbottler, the Fleshlumpeater, the Bonecruncher, or any of the other giants-rather than the BFG-she would have soon become breakfast.”

Another book I feel like every Ravenclaw will love! This books is really heart-warming in my opinion and I’m sure would grab any Ravenclaws attention. I can just imagine loads of first year Hogwarts students being sorted into Ravenclaw and all taking out their copies of the BFG.

4) The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr

30849412-1“Seventeen-year-old Flora Banks has no short-term memory. Her mind resets itself several times a day, and has since the age of ten, when the tumor that was removed from Flora’s brain took with it her ability to make new memories. That is, until she kisses Drake, her best friend’s boyfriend, the night before he leaves town. Miraculously, this one memory breaks through Flora’s fractured mind, and sticks.”

I feel like if a fellow Ravenclaw asked me for a recommendation of a fiction book that would help them learn something new, this would be the book I would give them. This book taught me a lot more about what people with amnesia have to deal with. More specifically younger people with amnesia. I feel like a Ravenclaw would love to learn a lot from this book.

5) We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

16143347-1“A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.”

The final book that I would recommend to a fellow Ravenclaw would have to be this one. I feel like Ravenclaws would love the mystery that this book hold and would love trying to work out for themselves what is happening in the book.

  1. I’m also a Ravenclaw. The new special editions of the Harry Potter book is GORGEOUS! I bought the Ravenclaw edition in hardback and paperback. I want them all but that is too much money. The One Memory of Flora Banks sounds interesting, I’m going to add it to my wish list 🙂
