Audiobooks Worth a Listen – Part 1

Audiobook.jpg

Recently, I have started listening to audiobooks again. I used to listen to audiobooks whenever I had the chance but for a few reasons I just stopped listening to them. So, when I started to listen to them again recently it got me thinking about YA audiobooks that are well worth the listen. I wanted to write a couple of posts were I could share some audiobooks that I have devoured as quickly as possible and are worth all the time spent listening to them. This is going to be a two part post and there are quite a few audiobooks that I want to talk about and recommend! Here is part one of the audiobooks worth a listen!

LineOn the Come Up by Angie Thomas – Narrated by Bahni Turpin

51Z4bsVNhNL._SL500_“Bri wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. As the daughter of an underground hip-hop legend who died right before he hit big, Bri’s got massive shoes to fill. But when her first song goes viral for all the wrong reasons, Bri finds herself at the centre of controversy and portrayed by the media as more menace than MC.

And with an eviction notice staring her family down, Bri no longer just wants to make it – she has to. Even if it means becoming the very thing the public has made her out to be.”

This is one of the most recent audiobooks that I have finished listening to and I loved it. I flew right through listening to this audiobook and I didn’t regret it one bit. Bahni’s narration of Bri’s story adds to the whole reading experience in my opinion. Bahni adds so much to Bri’s character and helps you to get lost in Bri’s world and her story. This audiobook is 11 hour and 41 minutes long and is well worth the listen!

Faceless by Alyssa Sheinmel – Narrated by Susan-Kate Heaney

515ytgvtNgL._SL500_“When Maisie gets into a terrible accident, her face is partially destroyed. She’s lucky enough to get a face transplant – but how do you live your life when you can’t even recognize yourself anymore? She was a runner, a girlfriend, a good student…a normal girl. Now all that has changed. As Maisie discovers how much her looks did – and didn’t – shape her relationship to the world, she has to redefine her own identity and figure out what “lucky” really means.”

This is one of the first ever audiobooks that I listened to. I had now listened to this audiobook at least 3 times. Susan-Kate brings Maisie’s character to life in such an incredible way. This audiobook added a lot to the overall story of Faceless for me, the narration is excellent and having someone read the story to you with the intended expressions adds to the overall reading experience. This audiobook is 9 hour and 43 minutes long and is well worth the listen!

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera – Narrated by Michael Crouch, Robbie Daymond and Bahni Turpin

51C4pZAQJ9L._SL500_“On September 5, a little after midnight, Death-Cast calls Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio to give them some bad news: They’re going to die today.

Mateo and Rufus are total strangers, but, for different reasons, they’re both looking to make a new friend on their End Day. The good news: There’s an app for that. It’s called the Last Friend, and through it, Rufus and Mateo are about to meet up for one last great adventure—to live a lifetime in a single day.”

This was the audiobook that gave my first ever Adam Silvera book experience and I loved it. I had heard a lot about Adam Silvera and his books from a lot of other readers and bloggers and it is safe to say it took me too long to get into his writing. All the narrators in this audiobook play their parts excellent and add to the overall reading/listening experience. Although this story is heart-breaking this audiobook is one you will not be able to stop listening to. This audiobook is 8 hours and 30 minutes long and is well worth the listen!

Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard – Narrated by Charlie Sanderson

616HvNbhRWL._SL500_“Best friends Caddy and Rosie are inseparable. Their differences have brought them closer, but as she turns 16 Caddy begins to wish she could be a bit more like Rosie – confident, funny and interesting. Then Suzanne comes into their lives – beautiful, damaged, exciting and mysterious – and things get a whole lot more complicated.

As Suzanne’s past is revealed and her present begins to unravel, Caddy begins to see how much fun a little trouble can be. But the course of both friendship and recovery is rougher than either girl realizes, and Caddy is about to learn that downward spirals have a momentum of their own.”

This audiobook was my introduction to Sara Barnard’s writing and book and it was such an excellent introduction. Sara is one of my favourite YA authors and I believe it all comes down to how wonderful this audiobook is. Charlie Sanderson narrated Caddy’s story and is an excellent narrator. I ended up downloading more audiobooks narrated by Charlie thanks to listening to this one. This book is a heartbreaking and heart-warming story of friendship that I will always cherish. This audiobook is 10 hours and 10 minutes long and is well worth the listen!

Am I Normal Yet? by Holly Bourne – Narrated by Charlie Sanderson

611dC-g8s3L._SL500_“All Evie wants is to be normal. And now that she’s almost off her meds and at a new college where no one knows her as ‘the girl who went nuts’, there’s only one thing left to tick off her list…a boyfriend. But relationships can mess with anyone’s head – something Evie’s new friends, Amber and Lottie, know only too well.

The trouble is, if Evie won’t tell them her secrets, how can they stop her making a huge mistake?”

This is the audiobook I listened to immediatly after finishing Beautiful Broken Things because I wanted to listen to more books read by Charlie Sanderson. I was not let down in anyway by this audiobook. Charlie narrates Evie’s story perfectly and I love how she brought Evie to life. Listening to this audiobook resulted in my buying a lot more of Holly Bourne’s books to read. This audiobook is 9 hours and 54 minutes long and is well worth the listen!

  1. Am I Normal Yet? is one of my favourite books, particularly because of the mental health rep. It’s been too long since I last read it so maybe I’ll pick it up on Audible. I listen to audiobooks when I’m driving or doing jobs around the house or when I get ready in a morning. I’m currently listening to Daisy Jones & The Six!

  2. I’m not usually the biggest fan of audiobooks (I get too distracted by other things and don’t listen!) but I definitely want to start trying them out so will be looking back here for some recommendations when I do! 🙂

  3. I love audiobooks! I loved listening to the audiobook for Strange the Dreamer. The narrator was great. They Both Die at the End is on my TBR, and I have been hoping that my library would get the audiobook in!
