Audiobooks Worth a Listen – Part 1

Recently, I have started listening to audiobooks again. I used to listen to audiobooks whenever I had the chance but for a few reasons I just stopped listening to them. So, when I started to listen to them again recently it got me thinking about YA audiobooks that are well worth the listen. I wanted to write a couple of posts were I could share some audiobooks that I have devoured as quickly as possible and are worth all the time spent listening to them. This is going to be a two part post and there are quite a few audiobooks that I want to talk about and recommend! Here is part one of the audiobooks worth a listen!

On the Come Up by Angie Thomas – Narrated by Bahni Turpin

“Bri wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. As the daughter of an underground hip-hop legend who died right before he hit big, Bri’s got massive shoes to fill. But when her first song goes viral for all the wrong reasons, Bri finds herself at the centre of controversy and portrayed by the media as more menace than MC. 

And with an eviction notice staring her family down, Bri no longer just wants to make it – she has to. Even if it means becoming the very thing the public has made her out to be.”

This is one of the most recent audiobooks that I have finished listening to and I loved it. I flew right through listening to this audiobook and I didn’t regret it one bit. Bahni’s narration of Bri’s story adds to the whole reading experience in my opinion. Bahni adds so much to Bri’s character and helps you to get lost in Bri’s world and her story. This audiobook is 11 hour and 41 minutes long and is well worth the listen!

Faceless by Alyssa Sheinmel – Narrated by Susan-Kate Heaney

“When Maisie gets into a terrible accident, her face is partially destroyed. She’s lucky enough to get a face transplant – but how do you live your life when you can’t even recognize yourself anymore? She was a runner, a girlfriend, a good student…a normal girl. Now all that has changed. This is one of the first ever audiobooks that I listened to. I had now listened to this audiobook at least 3 times. Susan-Kate brings Maisie’s character to life in such an incredible way. This audiobook added a lot to the overall story of Faceless for me, the narration is excellent and having someone read the story to you with the intended expressions adds to the overall reading experience. This audiobook is 9 hour and 43 minutes long and is well worth the listen!

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera – Narrated by Michael Crouch, Robbie Daymond and Bahni Turpin

This was the audiobook that gave my first ever Adam Silvera book experience and I loved it. I had heard a lot about Adam Silvera and his books from a lot of other readers and bloggers and it is safe to say it took me too long to get into his writing. All the narrators in this audiobook play their parts excellent and add to the overall reading/listening experience. Although this story is heart-breaking this audiobook is one you will not be able to stop listening to. This audiobook is 8 hours and 30 minutes long and is well worth the listen!

Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard – Narrated by Charlie Sanderson

“Best friends Caddy and Rosie are inseparable. This audiobook was my introduction to Sara Barnard’s writing and book and it was such an excellent introduction. Sara is one of my favourite YA authors and I believe it all comes down to how wonderful this audiobook is. Charlie Sanderson narrated Caddy’s story and is an excellent narrator. I ended up downloading more audiobooks narrated by Charlie thanks to listening to this one. This book is a heartbreaking and heart-warming story of friendship that I will always cherish. This audiobook is 10 hours and 10 minutes long and is well worth the listen!

Am I Normal Yet? by Holly Bourne – Narrated by Charlie Sanderson

This is the audiobook I listened to immediatly after finishing Beautiful Broken Things because I wanted to listen to more books read by Charlie Sanderson. I was not let down in anyway by this audiobook. Charlie narrates Evie’s story perfectly and I love how she brought Evie to life. Listening to this audiobook resulted in my buying a lot more of Holly Bourne’s books to read. This audiobook is 9 hours and 54 minutes long and is well worth the listen!
