I love doing these little two part post series each month in which I recommend some books! My last series was all about Feminism in YA. This month I wanted to discuss and recommend some YA books that are perfect to read in the summer. With me going on holiday this month I’m now officially in summer mode and want to read more summer books. If you are about to go on holiday or even just spending summer at home, this is the post for you! This is going to be a two part post as there are a lot of books I want to recommend for the summer months! Here is part one of Books to Devour in Summer!Field Notes on Love by Jennifer E. Smith
“It’s the perfect idea for a romantic week together: travelling across America by train. But then Hugo’s girlfriend dumps him. Her parting gift: the tickets for their long-planned last-hurrah-before-uni trip. Only, it’s been booked under her name. Nontransferable, no exceptions.
Mae is still reeling from being rejected from USC’s film school. When she stumbles across Hugo’s ad for a replacement Margaret Campbell (her full name!), she’s certain it’s exactly the adventure she needs to shake off her disappointment and jump-start her next film. A cross-country train trip with a complete stranger might not seem like the best idea.”
What is better to read about in summer than a good road-trip romance! This book has been talked about a lot in the past couple of months and it is one I have picked up to read this summer. I love Jennifer E. Smith’s other books so I am excited to read this one. It just seems like the perfect book to pick up to read in the summer months!
Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett
“Mystery-book aficionado Birdie Lindberg has an overactive imagination. Raised in isolation and home schooled by strict grandparents, she’s cultivated a whimsical fantasy life in which she plays the heroic detective and every stranger is a suspect. But her solitary world expands when she takes a job the summer before college, working the graveyard shift at a historic Seattle hotel.
In her new job, Birdie hopes to blossom from introverted dreamer to brave pioneer, and gregarious Daniel Aoki volunteers to be her guide. The hotel’s charismatic young van driver shares the same nocturnal shift and patronises the waterfront Moonlight Diner where she waits for the early morning ferry after work. Daniel also shares her appetite for intrigue, and he’s stumbled upon a real-life mystery: a famous reclusive writer—never before seen in public—might be secretly meeting someone at the hotel.”
I love reading Jenn Bennett books in the summer months. Her books always remind me of summer! With this one just being released, I can’t help but want to read this at some point this summer. This is the perfect YA contemporary book to make you smile in summer. You will definitely want to pick this one up!
If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka
“High school senior Cameron Bright’s reputation can be summed up in one word: bitch. It’s no surprise she’s queen bee at her private L.A. high school—she’s beautiful, talented, and notorious for her cutting and brutal honesty. So when she puts her foot in her mouth in front of her crush, Andrew, she fears she may have lost him for good.”
This book has received nothing but raving reviews ever since it was released back in April of this year! Not only does it’s cover scream summer read at you but so does everything written on the pages. This is the perfect book to read in summer and it was inspired by the film 10 Things I Hate About You (which is a favourite of mine), so I will certainly be reading this in summer!
One Italian Summer by Keris Stainton
“It’s been a year since Milly, Elyse and Leonie’s dad died, and a year since their last trip to Rome. Summer’s here again, and once again they are heading with their mum to Italy – but what’s it going to be like going without Dad? Rome still holds its familiar charms – the sun is still as warm, the gelato as delicious, the people as welcoming. But nothing is quite as it once was …”
This book is so much fun. I read it a few summers ago I adored it a lot! Summer is in the name so it is the perfect book for you to read in summer. Keris writes beautiful, funny and fast-paced stories you will not want to stop reading! This is the perfect book to read in summer by the pool but especially if you happen to be in Italy!
Summer of No Regrets
“Four friends pledge to make their summer regret-free but will it be that simple?
After their exams, sixteen-year-old friends Sasha, Hetal, Nell and Cam pledge to live a summer regret-free, taking risks however much it scares them. As all these choices become difficult, even dangerous, they will need each other for the strength to face the future.”
I read this book very recently and flew right through it. A story all about four friends and a summer where they do everything without any regrets. It is such a fast-paced fun read that filled me with so much joy whilst I was reading it. This book encapsulates summer for me. It really is the perfect book to pick up and read in the summer months!
What YA books do you want to devour this summer? What are books you think are perfect for summer? Let me know in the comments below. Be sure to look out for part two of this series coming soon!

I read Serious Moonlight a few months ago and absolutely loved it! I hope you enjoy it if you get to it this summer 🙂 Also, I read Emily and Austin’s debut novel last summer and thought it was perfect timing, so I’m sure If I’m Being Honest will be a great summer read as well 🙂
