Hello again! I am back again with part two of my 2020 YA debuts I’ve loved or cannot wait to read! I love supporting new authors and their debut novels and always love finding new authors. I recently posted part one which contains a lot of 2020 YA debuts. You can find part one, here. Here is part two!
By the Book by Amanda Sellet
“As a devotee of classic novels, Mary Porter-Malcolm knows all about Mistakes That Have Been Made, especially by impressionable young women. So when a girl at her new high school nearly succumbs to the wiles of a notorious cad, Mary starts compiling the Scoundrel Survival Guide, a rundown of literary types to be avoided at all costs.
Unfortunately, Mary is better at dishing out advice than taking it—and the number one bad boy on her list is terribly debonair. As her best intentions go up in flames, Mary discovers life doesn’t follow the same rules as fiction. If she wants a happy ending IRL, she’ll have to write it herself.”
A book with a main character who loves books is always a book that I want to read. This one has been getting so many positive reviews that I cannot wait to read it! I will be picking this one up as soon as I see it in a shop and the fact its a debut makes me even happier.
Stay Gold by Tobly McSmith
“Pony just wants to fly under the radar during senior year. Tired from all the attention he got at his old school after coming out as transgender, he’s looking for a fresh start at Hillcrest High. But it’s hard to live your best life when the threat of exposure lurks down every hallway and in every bathroom.
Georgia is beginning to think there’s more to life than cheerleading. She plans on keeping a low profile until graduation…which is why she promised herself that dating was officially a no-go this year.
Then, on the very first day of school, the new guy and the cheerleader lock eyes. How is Pony supposed to stay stealth when he wants to get close to a girl like Georgia? How is Georgia supposed to keep her promise when sparks start flying with a boy like Pony?”
I am lucky enough to have an early copy of this book and honestly cannot wait to read this. It has received a number of amazing reviews and I cannot wait to give this debut novel a read!
Run Rebel by Manjeet Mann
“When Amber runs, it’s the only time she feels completely free – far away from her claustrophobic home life. Her father wants her to be a dutiful daughter, waiting for an arranged marriage like her sister Ruby.
Running is a quiet rebellion. But Amber wants so much more – and she’s ready to fight for it.
It’s time for a revolution.”
This book is one that would never have been on my shelves if it hadn’t have been handed to me by a friend. This debut novel is empowering and is incredible. It is written in verse and is a quick-paced, eye-opening read. I posted a full review of this book which you can find here.
Are you Watching? by Vincent Ralph
“Ten years ago, Jess’s mother was murdered by the Magpie Man.
She was the first of his victims but not the last.
Now Jess is the star of a YouTube reality series and she’s using it to catch the killer once and for all.
The whole world is watching her every move.
And so is the Magpie Man.”
I read this one a while back and I throughly enjoyed it. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I was gripped into the mystery right from the start. I did a full review of this one which you can find here. I cannot wait to see what else Vincent Ralph writes in the future. What debut books are you looking forward to this year and which have you enjoyed? Let me know in the comments below.
