What Happened in 2020?

It is the last day of 2020 (FINALLY!). I cannot believe that tomorrow we will finally be in 2021. This past year has both flown by but also dragged in such an awful way. Despite the terrible things the year has thrown at us all I though it would be entertaining to look back on all my ‘What Happened in?’ posts of 2020 and see what happened throughout 2020. Here is what happened in 2020!

The year started off normal. I went book shopping, celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday and went for meals. Also, I travelled down to Wales with Sarah and Sophie to visit our wonderful best friend Charlotte! We spent the weekend together relaxing, shopping, sight-seeing and having some amazing friend time. Little did we know that this would be the only time we would see Charlotte (in person) in 2020. I wish we could have seen her a whole lot more.

February began with days out with David and then a lovely little birthday celebration for Sarah’s birthday! We ate cake and watched P.S I Still Love You and it was lovely. February was also the month that me and David began looking for our own house and it was such an exciting and big step for us both to take!

I went to see The 1975 twice in February which I had also done the previous year. I love The 1975 they are so incredible like. Little did I know that these would be the only concerts I got to 2020. I had so many planned but of course they didn’t happen, so, I appreciate the concerts I got this year even more. Also, I got to go to my first book event of 2020 in February. I got to see Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed in conversation and somehow Becky remembered me from interviewing her in 2018 which was amazing.

Oh March, the month that started out excellent and ended terribly. I started the month chilling in my favourite cafe reading and eating and ended the month stuck at home playing Animal Crossing. In March I spent a weekend with my wonderful best friends Sarah and Sophie. We went to a couple of book events, did a lot of book shopping and we watched the last ever UK show of Waitress the Musical. Into lockdown we went!

April the month that started at home and ended at home. I only left the house for walks this month and I was very lucky to be able to do just that. I spent a lot of April reading, sitting in the sun and appreciating nature whilst playing Animal Crossing.

May was another month of walks, reading, playing Animal Crossing and sleeping. I took a lot of time in May to appreciate friends in the the new ‘normal’ ways. I spent a lot of time on Skype and virtually watching movies with friends and it was lovely. It felt like being with them despite being far way from each other.

At the start of June it was David and I’s 5 year anniversary. Of course, we couldn’t do out orignal plans like everything else this year we adapted. We visited Wycoller which is a little village quite local to us. It was so beautiful there and it was lovely to have a day out together.

At the end of the month I got to see Sarah and Sophie in person for the first time in a few month. They came round to my garden for a catchup and socially distanced we snacked, played Animal Crossing and chatted! It was lovely to see them even if it was different and it made me very happy.

July was the month David and I finally moved into our first house together. We are officially homeowners and I still can’t believe it. It was such a nice little thing to come home and see David after work every day and cook our food together in our own house.

It is wild to think I own a house now but I do and I’m so happy. It feels so lovely to be able to come home and see David after work every day and cook our food together it is just the best. Also I went back to work in person for the first time in July. I was very anxious about it but I did excellently and I’m proud of myself.

August marked my 4 year blogging anniversary! I can’t believe I have been blogging for that long. Thank you so much for all the support that you have all given to me over the years I appreciate it so much.

David and I spent a lot of the month still in shock that we own a house. We spent days reading together, watching movies and having meals together. I missed seeing my family every day in August but talked to them a lot on the phone and even had my wonderful dog Maggie round for the weekend which was lovely.

I spent September in a new library almost every single day. My normal library was not open yet so it made work hard, unpredictable and it caused me a lot of anxiety. We started the process of having the house decorated this month which was exciting. I also completely changed my theme over on Instagram in September and I still love it now!

October was the month of my 23rd birthday! I spent my birthday at Chester Zoo watching my favourite animal, penguins, swim about for a lot longer than I probably should have. I had such a lovely birthday weekend despite having so many plans cancelled.

This month we started a lot of work on the house. We started having a rewire, the entire bottom floor of the house was ripped back to basics and we began waiting for our new kitchen!

November was the month we finished the rewire on our house, the kitchen was fitted and a lot of painting was gone. But then the end of the month didn’t go as expected. My sister (who we were living with at the time), tested positive for covid-19. So, we had to self-isolate. We all had symptoms but luckily it was only Katie who tested positive. We found out we’d be back in out house before Christmas so I bought a little ornament to celebrate!

December was one of my favourite months of 2020. It was Christmas, my Mum and Dad’s birthdays and I had some time off work. David and I finally moved back into our house after all the work we had done throughout October and November. It is so lovely to be back in our own home and I throughly enjoyed putting up our Christmas tree in our house. We spent our first ever Christmas day together and I loved it so much. I cannot wait for 2021 now!
