Top Ten Tuesday: Summer Reads

Hello all and welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday! This week’s top ten topic Summer Reads. I am going to add onto my Top 5 Wednesday post from last week and give you more books on my Summer TBR list. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted the The Broke and the Bookish.

So without further ado, here is this weeks Top Ten Tuesday, Summer Reads.

1) The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

“Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighbourhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.

Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr.”

This is a book I have been meaning to read for such a long time. I plan on trying to finally read this book in Summer. It’s topic is something that is a big new story at the minute, so I really want to read this book.

2) Release by Patrick Ness

After the book event that I went to a few weeks ago where Patrick Ness spoke about this book I knew I had to read this book as soon as I could. I feel as though it might be a book I sit down with one afternoon and read in one sitting.

3) Countless by Karen Gregory

I have been dying to read this book recently. There is something about this book that makes me want to cosy up and get reading as soon as I can. I will certainly be reading this book as soon as I can.

4. Spontaneous by Aaron Starmer

This book has been one that I have been waiting to read for a long long time now. After John Green mentioned this book in a video over a year ago I wanted to read it. It has finally been released over here in the UK. I can’t wait to be reading this book very soon.

5) A Tragic Kind of Wonderful by Eric Lindstrom

“For sixteen-year-old Mel Hannigan, bipolar disorder makes life unpredictable. Her latest struggle is balancing her growing feelings in a new relationship with her instinct to keep everyone at arm’s length. And when a former friend confronts Mel with the truth about the way their relationship ended, deeply buried secrets threaten to come out and upend her shaky equilibrium.”

This books has only recently come to my attention but I want to read it as soon as I can. This book took my interest and again seems like a book I would sit and read very very quickly. I have been reading nothing but good reviews of this book so I will definitely be reading this very soon.

6) It Started with Goodbye by Christina June

“Sixteen-year-old Tatum Elsea is bracing for the worst summer of her life. After being falsely accused of a crime, she’s stuck under stepmother-imposed house arrest and her BFF’s gone ghost. Tatum fills her newfound free time with community service by day and working at her covert graphic design business at night (which includes trading emails with a cute cello-playing client). When Tatum discovers she’s not the only one in the house keeping secrets, she finds she has the chance to make amends with her family and friends.”

This is another book that only came to my attention very recently. I requested it on Netgalley on a whim a few weeks ago after it grabbed my attention. I was lucky enough to be accepted for a review e-book. I have been seeing a lot of people talk about this book so I cannot wait to give this book a read this Summer.

7) When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon

“Dimple Shah has it all figured out. With graduation behind her, she’s more than ready for a break from her family, from Mamma’s inexplicable obsession with her finding the “Ideal Indian Husband.” Ugh. Dimple knows they must respect her principles on some level, though. If they truly believed she needed a husband right now, they wouldn’t have paid for her to attend a summer program for aspiring web developers…right?

Rishi Patel is a hopeless romantic. So when his parents tell him that his future wife will be attending the same summer program as him—wherein he’ll have to woo her—he’s totally on board. Because as silly as it sounds to most people in his life, Rishi wants to be arranged, believes in the power of tradition, stability, and being a part of something much bigger than himself.”

This is one of the book I am most excited about reading. There has been so much hype around this book and it’s release. I have heard nothing but amazing things about this book. It is a book that stands out to me and is different than anything I will have ever read before. I cannot wait to read this book!

8) Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy

Now, with her sister, Hattie, pregnant, responsibility weighs more heavily than ever.”

I have been waiting to read this book for over a month now. It seems as though it is going to be a Summer read now. My book has yet to be delivered and I cannot find it in any book stores near me. But I am so excited to read this book and have been for weeks.

9) Looking for Alaska by John Green

“Miles “Pudge” Halter is done with his safe life at home. His whole life has been one big non-event, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave “the Great Perhaps” even more (Francois Rabelais, poet). He heads off to the sometimes crazy and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe.”

This is a book I have been meaning to read for year now. But I might finally get round to it this Summer. My copy of this book is ruined as I have been carrying it around with me to so many places for so long. It is also a book I use to keep my pressed flowers safe. I really do need to get reading this book.

10) Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

“Beth Fremont and Jennifer Scribner-Snyder know that somebody is monitoring their work e-mail. (Everybody in the newsroom knows. It’s company policy.) But they can’t quite bring themselves to take it seriously. They go on sending each other endless and endlessly hilarious e-mails, discussing every aspect of their personal lives.

Meanwhile, Lincoln O’Neill can’t believe this is his job now- reading other people’s e-mail. When he applied to be “internet security officer,” he pictured himself building firewalls and crushing hackers- not writing up a report every time a sports reporter forwards a dirty joke.”

This is another book I have been meaning for a long time now. Let’s hope this Summer I do finally get around to reading it!
