Hello all, welcome to another top 10 Sunday. This weeks topic is favourite book quotes. So without further ado, here we go.
1. The BFG by Roald Dahl
“Two rights don’t equal a left.”
I have always liked this quote. A lot people used to say “two wrongs don’t make a right” to me when I was little. So when I was younger and read this line I laughed and thought how brilliant it was.
2. Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
“Eleanor was right. She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.”
I really like this quote because a lot of people reading it would think it is a really odd thing to say. But once you have read the book it hits a cord in you and makes you feel things.
3. Room by Emma Donoghue
“Scared is what you’re feeling. Brave is what you are doing.”
I really liked this quote because at the time I read Room I was panicking about my exams and getting into Uni. So once I had read it I just thought that it fits for everything you are struggling with so I use this quote a lot in life now.
4. Faceless by Alyssa B. Sheinmel
“You have to learn to love yourself before you can love someone else. Because it’s only when we love ourselves that we feel worthy of someone else’s love.”
I just thought this quote was inspirational and makes you think about loving yourself for who you are. Which sometimes is a really hard thing to do.
5. Matilda by Roald Dahl
“The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives. She went on olden-day sailing ships with Joseph Conrad. She went to Africa with Ernest Hemingway and to India with Rudyard Kipling. She travelled all over the world while sitting in her little room in an English village.”
I love this quote! It just shows you how many different worlds books can take you too and how many new people you can meet through the characters in book. All in the comfort of your own room. It shows the magic of reading.
6. Papertowns by John Green
“That’s always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people want to be around someone because they’re pretty. It’s like picking your breakfast cereals based on colour instead of taste.”
When I first read this I actually laughed out loud because of how stupid it sounded at first. But then thinking about it so many people in this world are with someone because they’re pretty and not based on their personality. So the comparision made is perfect.
7. Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider
“That’s all you can do in this world, no matter how strong the current beats against you, or how heavy your burden, or how tragic your love story. You keep going.”
Again this quote is inspirational to me. Even if you are struggling and live seems against you, you keep going. Because in the end things do get better.
8. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
“The thing I realize is, that it’s not what you take, it’s what you leave.”
Another inspirational quote. I read this book whilst I was struggling with stress and college and just feeling lonely. It made me smile a lot, and I couldn’t agree with the quote more.
9. Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon
“Sometimes I reread my favourite books from back to front. I start with the last chapter and read backwards until I get to the beginning. When you read this way, characters go from hope to despair, from self-knowledge to doubt. In love stories, couples start out as lovers and end as strangers. Coming-of-age books become stories of losing your way. Your favourite characters come back to life.”
I love this quote. It shows what books are like, you can interperate them in so many different ways depending on who you are and what you are feeling. If you read them backwards stories are so different. I just thought it was well thought out.
10. Room by Emma Donoghue
“In the world I notice persons are nearly always stressed and have no time… I don’t know how persons with jobs do the jobs and all the living as well… I guess the time gets spread very thin like butter all over over the world, the roads and houses and playgrounds and stores, so there’s only a little smear of time on each place, then everyone has to hurry on to the next bit.”
I had to add another Room quote to this list because I couldn’t miss out this quote. This just shows how busy the world we live in actually is. We are always stressed or busy or trying to do more than one thing at once. I like how this depicts the world.
