Hi all, it’s Lois, hope you are doing well. Here we go with this weeks Top 5 Wednesday, favourite LGBTQ+ Reads. My plan this year is actually to read more LQBTQ+ books so I’m going to make this my LGBTQ+ TBR.
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly challenge, find the Goodreads group here.
Without further ado, here are my top 5 favourite LGBTQ+ Reads.
1) All About Mia by Lisa Williamson
“One family, three sisters.
GRACE, the oldest: straight-A student.
AUDREY, the youngest: future Olympic swimming champion.
And MIA, the mess in the middle.
Mia is wild and daring, great with hair and selfies, and the undisputed leader of her friends – not attributes appreciated by her parents or teachers.
When Grace makes a shock announcement, Mia hopes that her now-not-so-perfect sister will get into the trouble she deserves.
But instead, it is Mia whose life spirals out of control – boozing, boys and bad behaviour – and she starts to realise that her attempts to make it All About Mia might put at risk the very things she loves the most.”
This one has been on my TBR for quite a while and I am rather excited about reading it. Lisa Williamson is well known for writing LGBTQ+ books and I am excited to read this one.
2) The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson
“Two boys. Two secrets.
David Piper has always been an outsider. His parents think he’s gay. The school bully thinks he’s a freak. Only his two best friends know the real truth – David wants to be a girl.
On the first day at his new school Leo Denton has one goal – to be invisible. Attracting the attention of the most beautiful girl in year eleven is definitely not part of that plan.
When Leo stands up for David in a fight, an unlikely friendship forms. But things are about to get messy. Because at Eden Park School secrets have a funny habit of not staying secret for long…”
Another of Lisa Williamson’s books that has been on my TBR for a quite a while now. I bought this last year but never got round to reading it.
3) Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
“Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship—the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.”
This book is talked about so much in the young adult community. I have been meaning to read it for ages. I picked it up a few weeks ago finally and plan on reading it whilst on holiday this year.
4) Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
“Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing, will be compromised.”
Another book that has been on my TBR for a very long time. It receives so much praise that I really want to sit down and just finally read it. I hope to read this one on holiday too.
5) History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera
“When Griffin’s first love and ex-boyfriend, Theo, dies in a drowning accident, his universe implodes. Even though Theo had moved to California for college and started seeing Jackson, Griffin never doubted Theo would come back to him when the time was right. But now, the future he’s been imagining for himself has gone far off course.”
Oh this book! I was so excited about its release and bought it on release day and then got sidetracked. It has just been added to my TBR pile to be read soon. I really want to know what the hype is all about and if I love it as much as I think I will do.
