Hey guys. it’s Lois, back with another Standalone Sunday. Standalone Sunday is a weekly meme created by Megan @ Bookslayerreads. Every Sunday we make a post about a standalone book, so one that is not part of a series. There is an awful lot of focus are books that are part of a series, so it is always nice to feature a standalone book.

So, here is this weeks Standalone Sunday book, Optimists Die First by Susin Nielsen.

Synopsis:

“Petula has avoided friendship and happiness ever since tragedy struck her family and took her beloved younger sister Maxine. Worse, Petula blames herself. If only she’d kept an eye on her sister, if only she’d sewn the button Maxine choked on better, if only…
Now her anxiety is getting out of control, she is forced to attend the world’s most hopeless art therapy class. But one day, in walks the Bionic Man: a charming, amazingly tall newcomer called Jacob, who is also an amputee.”

My Comments:

I took an interest in this book as soon as I knew the author was Susin Nielsen. I loved her previous book and was looking to read more of her work. I picked this book up late this Thursday  and had finished it by Saturday afternoon. I just didn’t want to put the book down. It was incredible and is such a heart-warming story. Susin Nielsen writes her stories beautifully and I really enjoy reading her books.

I will be posting a review of this book in the next week so look out for that. But, for now the book is fantastic and was a joy to read!
