Top Ten Tuesday: Books I have Given to my Mum

Hello all and welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday! This week’s top ten topic is a mother’s day freebie. It wasn’t mother’s day in England this weekend ours was back in March. I thought for this freebie topic I would talk about the books I have passed on to my Mum to read and what she has thought of them. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted the The Broke and the Bookish.

So without further ado, here is this weeks Top Ten Tuesday, books I have given to my Mum.

1) A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

I gave this book to my Mum a couple of weeks ago so that she could read it before we went and met Patrick Ness on the 8th May. My Mum really enjoyed this book and thought for a young adult book (which she isn’t the biggest fan of) she would give it ★★★★☆.

2) All I Ever Wanted by Lucy Dillon

I gave this book straight to my Mum after I had finished reading it at the beginning of the year. I had a feeling she would really enjoy it and it was more her kind of book than it was mine. I was correct she gave it ★★★★★!

3) On the Other Side by Carrie Hope Fletcher

I had to give this book to my Mum so that she could read it. This book is one of my favourite books so, of course I had to pass it on to my Mum to see what she though. She wasn’t the biggest fan of it. She thought it was good and had it’s really good point but she wasn’t completely impressed by the book. My Mum gave this book ★★★☆☆.

4) Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson

“It was Sloane who yanked Emily out of her shell and made life 100% interesting. But right before what should have been the most epic summer, Sloane just…disappears. All she leaves behind is a to-do list.

My Mum actually started reading this book accidentally. Me and my Mum shared a kindle for just over a year and she just clicked on this book one day knowing nothing about the book. I hadn’t even read it at the time either. She told me I really needed to read it as soon as she had finished it. My Mum gave this book ★★★★☆.

5) The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

“Andie had it all planned out. When you are a politician’s daughter who’s pretty much raised yourself, you learn everything can be planned or spun, or both. Especially your future. Important internship? Check. Amazing friends? Check. Guys? Check (as long as we’re talking no more than three weeks).

But that was before the scandal. Before having to be in the same house with her dad. Before walking an insane number of dogs. That was before Clark and those few months that might change her whole life. Because here’s the thing—if everything’s planned out, you can never find the unexpected. And where’s the fun in that?”

After my Mum had read the previous book on this list I decided to give her the other Morgan Matson book that I owned for her to read. She wasn’t as much of a fan of this book. She felt it was written for people younger than her and it just didn’t fit her reading style. But she did give it ★★★☆☆.

6) Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Me and my Mum both said we would read this book so that we could watch the movie together. Of course she is still waiting on my to read the book but she has read it twice now. My Mum is a big fan of this book and gave it ★★★★★!

7) Room by Emma Donoghue

“To five-year-old Jack, Room is the entire world. It is where he was born and grew up; it’s where he lives with his Ma as they learn and read and eat and sleep and play. At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits.”

Room was my favourite book that I read last year. I passed this book down to pretty much every member in my family that reads. My little sister read it in a day which is extremely fast for her. But my Mum read it before her. She thought it was a really good book and was glad I had given it to her to read, so, she gave it ★★★★☆.

8) Harry Potter Series by J.K Rowling 

“Harry Potter’s life is miserable. His parents are dead and he’s stuck with his heartless relatives, who force him to live in a tiny closet under the stairs. But his fortune changes when he receives a letter that tells him the truth about himself: he’s a wizard. How could I recommend books to my Mum and not tell her to read the Harry Potter series. I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter books and the films so I told my Mum to give them a read. I should say now that my Mum has never watched the Harry Potter films. Not one of them. She has been to the studio tour last year for my birthday but has never seen the films. So her rating is purely for the books and that is ★★★★☆.

9) You Will Not Have My Hate by Antoine Leiris

“One night last winter, Antoine Leiris was at home looking after his son while his wife, Hélène, was at a concert with friends. Suddenly he started receiving text messages asking if he was ok. Turning on the TV, Antoine watched the terrorist attacks in Paris unfolding around him and tried to call Hélène. She didn’t answer. I passed this book on to my Mum again immediately after I had finished reading it. I needed someone to discuss the book with. She read it the next evening in one sitting and immediately afterwards messaged me about it. This book is a book that really does need to be read by everyone out there. My Mum gave this ★★★★★!

10) The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher

“The Christmasaurus is a story about a boy named William Trundle, and a dinosaur, the Christmasaurus. It’s about how they meet one Christmas Eve and have a magical adventure. It’s about friendship and families, sleigh bells and Santa, singing elves and flying reindeer, music and magic. It’s about discovering your heart’s true desire, and learning that the impossible might just be possible.”

I gave this book to my Mum as she has had to deal with my love of the band McFly ever since I was five-years-old. Yes, she likes them too but she was the one who took me to all their concerts and still does. So, I passed this book to her and she read it just before the tickets for the live show of the Christmasaurus came out. I had mentioned them to her but said it was in London which is a long way away. My Mum being my Mum said nope this is a once in a lifetime experience and bought me, her and my younger sister tickets to see it live 2 days before Christmas. My Mum enjoyed this book and gave it ★★★★☆.
