Headline New Voices 2018 Event!

Screen Shot 2018-01-18 at 20.22.39.png

Today’s post is all about an amazing blogging event that I went on Wednesday evening. I was invited by the lovely Georgina Moore, who is the communications director at Headline Publishing and Tinder Press, to the New Voice 2018 event in Manchester.

At the event there were 5 new authors and their brand new books. The authors were all so lovely and walked around the event talking to us all. I am going to show you all their books in a bit. It was lovely to be able to chat to the authors and hear their stories about how they got into writing and about their books. I really liked that we all just got to chat and it was like a formal interview setting.

It as so lovely to meet some new bloggers but also to see friends that I have made thanks to blogging and my love of books. I got to see the lovely Fiona and Kimi who I can never thank enough for the support they have given me over the last year or so and how many books they recommend to me. I also got to meet Katie who again was lovely and recommended me so many books. Be sure to check out their blogs that are linked on their names above and also make sure you check out Kimi and Fiona’s book podcast, The Tale of Two Booksellers. My Mum even got to attend the event, thank you so much to Georgina for letting her attend after her phone decided to give up on her.

So without further ado, lets talk about the amazing books I got at the event.

1. The Feed by Nick Clark Windo – Out 25th January 2018

isbn9781472241900.jpg“Tom and Kate’s daughter turns six tomorrow, and they have to tell her about sleep.
If you sleep unwatched, you could be Taken. If you are Taken, then watching won’t save you.
Nothing saves you.

Your knowledge. Your memories. Your dreams.
If all you are is on the Feed, what will you become when the Feed goes down?”

For Tom and Kate, in the six years since the world collapsed, every day has been a fight for survival. And when their daughter, Bea, goes missing, they will question whether they can even trust each other anymore.

The threat is closer than they realise…”

This book as Nick described last night is creepy, for fans of the Black Mirror, shows how much technology is advances and is also “out next week”.

2. The Perfect Girlfriend by Karen Hamilton – Out by 8th March 2018

31113934.jpg“Juliette loves Nate. She will follow him anywhere. She’s even become a flight attendant for his airline, so she can keep a closer eye on him.

They are meant to be.

The fact that Nate broke up with her six months ago means nothing. Because Juliette has a plan to win him back. She is the perfect girlfriend. And she’ll make sure no one stops her from getting exactly what she wants.

True love hurts, but Juliette knows it’s worth all the pain…”

Karen worked as a flight attendant for many years which gave her some inspiration for her first novel. She likes to now explore the world through her writing. Karen’s book is a thriller and sound so interesting.

3. The Wolf by Leo Carew – Out 5th April 2018

isbn9781472247001.jpgA great war has come to the land under the Northern Sky.

Beyond the Black River, among the forests and mountains of the north, lives an ancient race of people. Their lives are measured in centuries, not decades; they revel in wilderness and resilience, and they scorn wealth and comfort.

By contrast, those in the south live in the moment, their lives more fleeting. They crave wealth and power, their ambition is limitless, and their cunning unmatched.

When the armies of the south flood across the Black River, the fragile peace between the two races is shattered. On a lightning-struck battlefield, the two sides will fight – for their people, for their land, for their very survival.

Two sides. One victor.”

Leo was explaining that the cover design is most certainly inspired by the game Skyrim. This book sounds perfect for Game of Thrones fans!

4. In Our Mad and Furious City by Guy Gunaratne – Out 3rd May 2018

isbn9781472250223.jpg“For Selvon, Ardan and Yusuf, growing up under the towers of Stones Estate, summer means what it does anywhere: football, music, freedom. But now, after the killing of a British soldier, riots are spreading across the city, and nowhere is safe.

While the fury swirls around them, Selvon and Ardan remain focused on their own obsessions, girls and grime. Their friend Yusuf is caught up in a different tide, a wave of radicalism surging through his local mosque, threatening to carry his troubled brother, Irfan, with it.”

Before the event Guy was asking for places to buy books in Manchester I directed him to the Waterstones on Deansgate (my favourite store). He shouted over Georgina whilst he was sat at our table and went this is Lois the one who knows Manchester which I thought was hilarious. Guy is also a designer, documentary filmmaker and video journalist. His book sounds amazing.

5. The Tall Man by Phoebe Locke – Out 14th June 2018

isbn9781472249234.jpgA SENSELESS MURDER. A TERRIFYING LEGEND. A FAMILY HAUNTED.

1990: In the darkest woods, three girls devote themselves to a sinister figure.

2000: A young mother disappears, leaving behind her husband and baby daughter.

2018: A teenage girl is charged with murder, and her trial will shock the world.

Three chilling events, connected by the shadow he casts.

He is the Tall Man. He can make you special…”

Phoebe told my Mum she shouldn’t read this book before going to bed and I will be taking her advice. Phoebe took inspiration from Slender Man and I am very much terrified of Slender Man. Phoebe also writes YA books under her real name Nicci Cloke.

All of these books sound amazing and I cannot wait to get reading them. Thank you so much to Headline Publishing for hosting this event for bloggers and booksellers. Thank you to Georgina Moore as well for inviting me to the event. I had so much fun!

  1. It’s always awesome when these kinds of events happen up north and we get to hang out 😁😁 (sorry I ran off early!)
Ciatan was looking at The Wolf last night and saying it is very Nordic inspired and even he is interested in reading. As he is someone who doesn’t read a lot this is a big compliment haha
