What I Read in February!

What I ReaHello all! I am back with another what I read this month post! In February I read a grand total of 8 books this month and I can’t quite believe it. I felt like I was flying through books but got to the end of the month and entered a little bit of a slump. I’m not quite sure why but it just seemed to happen. The 8 books that I read this month though I did enjoy. Here are some mini reviews of those books, here is what I read in February.LineYes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed

2020-02-01 10.46.23 1.jpg

“YES
Jamie Goldberg is cool with volunteering for his local state senate candidate—as long as he’s behind the scenes. When it comes to speaking to strangers (or, let’s face it, speaking at all to almost anyone), Jamie’s a choke artist. There’s no way he’d ever knock on doors to ask people for their votes…until he meets Maya.

NO
Maya Rehman’s having the worst Ramadan ever. Her best friend is too busy to hang out, her summer trip is canceled, and now her parents are separating. Why her mother thinks the solution to her problems is political canvassing—with some awkward dude she hardly knows—is beyond her.

MAYBE SO
Going door to door isn’t exactly glamorous, but maybe it’s not the worst thing in the world. After all, the polls are getting closer—and so are Maya and Jamie. Mastering local activism is one thing. Navigating the cross-cultural romance of the century is another thing entirely.”

I read this book ahead of the Becky and Aisha event in Liverpool this weekend and what a wonderful book it is. I enjoyed it a lot and it made me very happy and hopeful. I felt this book needed a full review because it is a lovely book. Here is my full review of this wonderful book!

★★★

Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark

IMG_20200202_200852_750.jpg“Sharing never-before-heard stories ranging from their struggles with depression, eating disorders, and addiction, Karen and Georgia irreverently recount their biggest mistakes and deepest fears, reflecting on the formative life events that shaped them into two of the most followed voices in the nation.”

What a book! I read this with Sophie from The Little Contemporary Corner and we both loved it. It felt like a conversation with a friend the entire way through. I posted a full review of this book which you can find here!

★★★

Diary of a Confused Feminist by Kate Weston

2020-01-31 08.56.04 1.jpg

“Kat wants to do GOOD FEMINISM, although she’s not always sure what that means. She also wants to be a writer, get together with Hot Josh (is this a feminist ambition?), win at her coursework and not make a TOTAL EMBARRASSMENT of herself at all times.

But the path to true feminism is filled with mortifying incidents and when everything at school starts to get a bit too much, Kat knows she’s lost her way, and the only way forward is to ask for help . . .”

This was another wonderful book that I flew right the way through. I laughed and laughed whilst reading this book, it is so hilarious! I’m so glad I picked this up and gave it a read. I did another full review of this book which you can find here!

★★★

Wranglestone by Darren Charlton

2020-02-02 01.46.18 1.jpg

“In a post-apocalyptic America, a community survives in a national park, surrounded by water that keeps the Dead at bay. But when winter comes, there’s nothing to stop them from crossing the ice.

Then homebody Peter puts the camp in danger by naively allowing a stranger to come ashore and he’s forced to leave the community of Wranglestone. Now he must help rancher Cooper, the boy he’s always watched from afar, herd the Dead from their shores before the lake freezes over.

But as love blossoms, a dark discovery reveals the sanctuary’s secret past. One that forces the pair to question everything they’ve ever known.”

I wasn’t the biggest fan of this book. I did enjoy it but it didn’t spark me as much joy as I was expecting it to. I am hopefully going to post a full review of this soon. I can see why people will love this one but I just didn’t enjoy it that much.

★★★

Heartstopper Volume 3 by Alice Oseman

43449920._SY475_“In this volume we’ll see the Heartstopper gang go on a school trip to Paris! Not only are Nick and Charlie navigating a new city, but also telling more people about their relationship AND learning more about the challenges each other are facing in private…”

Of course I loved this one! How can you not. What a wonderful and adorable and amazing book this is. I could read it over and over again. I love it to pieces.

★★★★★

Break the Fall by Jennifer Iacopelli

2020-02-07 01.59.58 1.jpg

“A year ago, she could barely do a push up as she recovered from a spine surgery, one that could have paralyzed her. And now? She’s made the United States’ gymnastics team with her best friend, Emma, just like they both dreamed about since they were kids. She’s on top of the world.

The pressure for perfection is higher than ever when horrifying news rips the team apart. Audrey is desperate to advocate for her teammate who has been hurt by the one person they trusted most–but not all the gymnasts are as supportive.”

I throughly enjoyed this book! I flew through reading it in a matter of days and got completely drawn into the story. For someone who has little to no interest in the olympics and gymnastics, this isn’t a book I would normally pick up. I actually posted a full review of this book which you can find here!

★★★

The Upside of Falling by Alex Light

2020-01-23 10.01.20 1.jpg

“It’s been years since seventeen-year-old Becca Hart believed in true love. But when her former best friend teases her for not having a boyfriend, Becca impulsively pretends she’s been secretly seeing someone.

Brett Wells has it all. Being captain of the football team and one of the most popular guys in school, he should have no problem finding someone to date, but he’s always been more focused on his future than who to bring to prom. When he overhears Becca’s lie, Brett decides to step in and be her mystery guy. It’s the perfect solution: he gets people off his back for not dating and she can keep up the ruse.”

This is such a fun, quick, cute and adorable read that I flew right the way through this month. I actually posted a full review of this book a couple of day ago, so be sure to check that out. I want to read more books by Alex Light in the future that is for sure!

★★★

Run Rebel by Manjeet Mann

2020-02-15 11.03.50 1.jpg

“When Amber runs, it’s the only time she feels completely free – far away from her claustrophobic home life. Her father wants her to be a dutiful daughter, waiting for an arranged marriage like her sister Ruby.

Running is a quiet rebellion. But Amber wants so much more – and she’s ready to fight for it.”

Now this is a book I would never have picked up but after being gifted a copy via my job I am so glad I read it. I loved it and read it in just a couple of sittings. It is a book written in verse and what beautiful verse they are. I will be posting a full review of this very soon. Bonus, my copy smelt of Chai tea for some reason and I loved it!

★★★LineThat is all that I read in February but I am really proud with what I have read this month. What have you read in February and what are you looking forward to reading in March? Let me know in the comments!Happy Reading
