I am going to YALC for the first time ever this year and I am so excited! I cannot wait to spend a weekend with my friends doing lots of bookish things. I have a few books I would like to read before I go to YALC this year. I don’t know what to expect at YALC but I am ready for lots of books. Here is my YALC TBR!
A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard
“Steffi has been a selective mute for most of her life – she’s been silent for so long that she feels completely invisible. But Rhys, the new boy at school, sees her. He’s deaf, and her knowledge of basic sign language means that she’s assigned to look after him. To Rhys, it doesn’t matter that Steffi doesn’t talk, and as they find ways to communicate, Steffi finds that she does have a voice, and that she’s falling in love with the one person who makes her feel brave enough to use it.”
I have read Sara Barnards other books and want to read this before I go to YALC. I really like her writing and I am excited to read this book and possibly meet her at YALC.
Truth or Dare by Non Pratt
“Claire Casey hates being the centre of attention. But if it means getting Sef Malik to notice her, it’s a risk she’s happy to take. Sef is prepared to do anything to help his recently disabled brother. But this means putting Claire’s love – and life – on the line. Because when you’re willing to risk everything, what is there left to lose?”
I am a big fan of Non Pratt’s work and this is the only book of hers that I haven’t read yet. I have actually heard mixed reviews about this book so I am excited to see what I think.
Truly, Madly, Awkward by Beth Garrod
“Bella Fisher is back – and is cool, calm and collected as ever. So: NOT EVEN REMOTELY. Her fledgling relationship with Hot Adam seems to have stalled mid-flight (he isn’t really speaking to her), her big sister Jo has gone off to university leaving Bella to deal with ditzy Mum on her own, something is up with her best-friend-dynamic with Tegan and Rachel and horror of horrors, horrendous ex-boyfriend Luke has an ACTUAL MODEL as his new girlfriend.”
I loved the first book in this series and have wanted to read the second for a long time. It was recently announced that there will be a third book in the series so I am looking to read this very soon.
Skylarks by Karen Gregory
“When she was little, Joni used to have dreams that she could fly. But these days her feet are firmly on the ground – they have to be when money’s tight and her dad can’t work and the whole family has to pull together to keep afloat.
Then she meets Annabel. Annabel is everything Joni isn’t, and yet there’s a spark between them. Though Joni barely believes it at first, she thinks they might be falling in love.
But when Annabel’s parents find out about the relationship, it’s clear they believe there are some differences that are impossible to overcome …”
I have actually read a little bit of this book and I am enjoying it so far. I am just flipping between a few books at the minute and haven’t focused on this one just yet.
One Italian Summer by Keris Stainton
“It’s been a year since Milly, Elyse and Leonie’s dad died, and a year since their last trip to Rome. Summer’s here again, and once again they are heading with their mum to Italy – but what’s it going to be like going without Dad? Rome still holds its familiar charms – the sun is still as warm, the gelato as delicious, the people as welcoming. But nothing is quite as it once was …”
This is one of the books I am actually going to take with me on holiday as well. I got this last year and wanted to wait until summer to give it a read. I have heard many great things about this book.
My Heart Goes Bang Keris Stainton
“Gemma, Lou, Issey, Liane and Paige are determined to make the most of this second year at uni. They want to have fun, but they want to focus on work. There’s no time for relationships. Except with each other. And even that’s not guaranteed. Gemma and Lou have always been close, but there’s tension between Issey and Liane, and none of them even knows Paige all that well.”
This is Keris’ new book this is being released very soon. I will be getting this book when it comes out and giving it a read.
Eve of Man by Tom and Giovanna Fletcher
“All her life Eve has been kept away from the opposite sex. Kept from the truth of her past.
But at sixteen it’s time for Eve to face her destiny. Three potential males have been selected for her. The future of humanity is in her hands. She’s always accepted her fate.
Until she meets Bram.
Eve wants control over her life. She wants freedom.
But how do you choose between love and the future of the human race?”
This is another book that I have read a little of already. I really don’t know what to think of this at the minute. I was hoping I would really enjoy it but I don’t think that will be the case.
What books are on your YALC TBR? Are there any more books you think I should add to my TBR?
