Trip to Edinburgh – Recap

Holliday

Not long ago I went on a weekend break to Edinburgh with my boyfriend David to celebrate my 22nd birthday and just have an excellent weekend together. This was my second time visiting Edinburgh. The last time I went I was a lot younger and ended up being quite ill whilst there so I wanted to experience everything again! I had such a wonderful time in Edinburgh with David and wanted to write a little recap all about the trip. Here is my recap of my trip to Edinburgh!

The weekend actually started out at home. On the Friday morning before we left for the train station I opened my birthday presents from family and did my final bits of packing. Then we set off to the train station!

We were really lucky this trip and got an incredible deal on travelling first class on the train to Edinburgh, it cost us next to nothing and we had a delicious dinner and a really relaxed journey. For someone who gets extremely travel sick on any journey this was exactly what I needed and started out my birthday and the weekend in the best way.

After getting settled in our hotel room and unpacking we set out to explore Edinburgh. I wanted to spend my birthday in a relaxing way and thats exactly what I did. We visited Edinburgh Castle, stopped in a few lovely cafes and bought some books. We finished my birthday by having a delicious steak for tea and relaxing!

On the Saturday we planned to visit Edinburgh zoo and explore the entire thing. That is exactly what we did. We were at the zoo for opening and were there until it closed. It is definitely one of the best zoos I have ever visited and has so much to do there. It is set on a huge hill though so there was a lot of walking involved and we were certainly sore the day after. My favourite thing about Edinburgh zoo was the Penguin Parade which I think I will remember for the rest of my life. It was such a wonderful little experience and if you don’t know what it is, the penguins get let out their enclosure, with no bribing, it is just if they want to. They then walk around in a big line near their enclosure, it is just a fun thing to watch!

Saturday night ended with us going to a small Chinese restaurant that we had spotted on the bus back from the zoo. There was no one else in this restaurant but it didn’t put us off at all because it had had so many incredible reviews. It was delicious and we were glad we went. The lovely waiter even brought us out some Chinese doughnuts at the end of the meal with a candle in to celebrate my birthday!

Sunday was a wet one. It rained non-stop all day so we were quite limited on what we could do. The morning was spent having fun at the Camera Obscura. Then we spent the afternoon in cafes and the shops before we got the train back home.

We had such a wonderful weekend and a well needed relax. It was such a wonderful way to spend my 22nd birthday and we are already planning our next trip! Thank you David for a wonderful weekend and thank you Edinburgh for being beautiful!
