Here Lie the Secrets – Emma Young

Thank you to the publisher for gifting me a finished copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Mia’s best friend Holly died when they were thirteen. But years later, Holly still hasn’t left her.

Spending the summer in New York, Mia is hoping to escape the visions of Holly that haunt her life at home. There she meets Rav, a parapsychology student, who convinces her to take part in a study into why some people see ghosts. Soon she is caught up in the investigation of Halcyon House, which is reputed to be haunted by a poltergeist. As Mia confronts her fears, what she learns about the house and herself will change her life forever.

Here Lie the Secrets is an intriguing and enjoyable story all about forgiveness, grief and dealing with the ghosts of your past. It is full of a mixture of mystery, excitement and plot twists.

This book is split into part one and part two. I’ll be honest part one take a little while to get into. Part two is amazing. Part one is needed and sets up so much. It is intriguing though and I was hooked by the ghost aspects of part one. As soon as we hit part town and Halycon House is introduced I was hooked and read that part in one sitting.

Halycon House is so fascinating, spooky and incredibly intriguing. It is absolutely packed full of mysteries. It is in Halycon House where the storyline becomes more thrilling and scary and keeps you on your toes. I began to doubt the things that the book had been telling me and I was second guessing everything that I had in mind.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Mia at first but I did grow to like her and feel for her as the book went on. I even started to worry about her towards the end of the book. I really enjoyed the exploration of her mental health and her dealing with her mother’s mental health as well.

I throughly enjoyed the storyline of her understanding her grief, letting go of past issues and rethinking and dealing with her past. Also, I throughly enjoyed the side characters. They are interesting and added a lot to the story for me. I loved the ghost hunting squad and Tamara. They all helped to bring out Mia’s best qualities and I loved them.

Overall, Here Lie the Secrets is an emotional and intriguing story all about learning how to deal with grief and what has happened in the past. It is compelling and thoughtful as well as being mysterious and thrilling! I highly recommend this one!
