We’re nearly half-way through 2023 which I can’t quite believe. So, I wanted to do the mid-year book freak out tag. I’ve done this tag for a few years now and I always love looking back on the previous years answers. So, here is the mid-year book freak out for 2023.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2023
This has to be Happy Place by Emily Henry! I love this book so much and I’ve been thinking about it ever since I finished reading it. It has heart-warming moments, heart-breaking moments and moments of pure joy. I cannot recommend it enough.
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2023
Although it isn’t technically a sequel and more of a companion novel, it would have to be Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez. I love the characters that are at the centre of this novel and the look we get at the characters from the previous novel. Both of them are well worth the read!
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
Lose You to Find Me by Erik J. Brown which I bought a couple of months ago and have been looking forward to reading for ages now. I’ve seen some amazing reviews for it and I’m looking forward to seeing what I think.
Most anticipated release for the second half of 2023
It has to be The Brothers Hawthorne by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I’m so excited to be back in the world of the Hawthorne Brothers with a brand new mystery.
Biggest Disappointment
That would have to be This Bird Has Flown by Susanna Hoffs. I’d heard some excellent things about this one before I read it and I very nearly DNF’d it but just wanted to get through it. It was a big disappointment.
Biggest Surprise
I think that would have to be The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith. I didn’t know much about this book going into it and I was completely blown away by it and the story it told. I would certainly recommend it!
Favourite new author
I would have to say Abby Jimenez. She is a new author to me this year and I’ve already read two books by her. Part of Your World and Yours Truly both of which were incredible. I’ll be reading more by her this year too.
Newest fictional crush
I don’t have a new fictional crush! Like I’ve said before I do not seem to get crushes on characters from books more so from films or TV shows. But I have no new ones!
New favourite character
Wyn from Happy Place by Emily Henry. He is sweet, endearing, caring and I want a book all about Wyn in the future please!
Book that made you cry
It was my re-read of Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid that has made me cry the most this year. I finished it and sobbed for a good hour afterwards.
Book that made you happy
The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green left me feeling happy. It had me heart-broken at times too but I found myself laughing a lot whilst reading and I just loved reading a non-fiction book by John Green.
The most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year
I think that would have to be my special edition of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It is such a stunning special edition and I would like it to always be on display on my bookshelf.
What books do you want to read by the end of the year?
I want to read Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams and Us Against You by Fredrik Backman by the end of the year. I’ve had them both on my TBR for a while now and I’d like to finally read them both.
Favourite book to screen adaptation you’ve seen this year?
That would have to be the Daisy Jones & The Six tv series. It is one of the best book to screen adaptiations that I have ever seen. It blew me away, had me sobbing and I’ve been listening to the album from it ever since I finished reading it!

There you have it, the mid-year book freak out tag. How is your reading going in 2023 so far? Let me know in the comments below!
