Alex in Wonderland – Simon James Green

Book Review

Alex has just been abandoned by his two best friends for the duration of the summer and is unsure of what to do. So, when he unexpectedly lands a part-time job at Wonderland, a run-down amusement arcade on the Newsands seafront and gets to know the other teen misfits who work there, he comes out of his shell. He even starts developing feeling for his co-worker Ben, who as Alex’s bad luck would have it, has a girlfriend.

3This book was so much fun to read! Simon James Green has done it once again and made me laugh out loud when reading one minute and then the next minute be in tears. Simon really is the best when it comes to awkward gay boy books.

This book is hilarious. There were moments when I was laughing out loud and even moments when I let out a little giggle and went back to reading. This happened so much that my boyfriend asked to see what was so funny in my book and read some of it himself!

This is such a perfect summer read and I definitely read it at the right time. I loved reading about Alex and his friends summer adventures whilst I was sat by a pool on holiday, it really started summer for me.

I am such a big fan of Alex’s character. He is a shy, anxious, awkward boy, who has no idea how to flirt and keeps crushing on straight boys. Ben is adorable and I can see why Alex has fallen for his dimples. I also loved all the secondary characters in this book. Every single character was thought out, their personality jumped off the page and they felt like real people. I would love to read more from these characters they just brought me a lot of joy.

I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery that ran through this book. I won’t say much but the Wonderland staff start to receive threatening messages in the post, warning them that they need to shut down Wonderland or they will suffer the consequence. This plot and mystery runs all the way through the book and I loved that although this is a cute, summer book it also had a good mystery element.

This book is just adorable. It is brilliant, thought-provoking and will make you laugh out loud. I cannot recommend it enough!

Line5 StarsHappy Reading
