May Releases I’m Excited For!

New Book Releases!Hello everyone, hope you are doing well and keeping safe! One thing I always love writing about, is new book releases. I love being able to find out about new books that are going to be released within the next month and it always gets me excited about new books to read. There are so many incredible books coming out in the May and I cannot wait to read them all! Here are the May 2020 releases I am excited about!

LineThe Gravity of Us by Phil Stamper

2020-03-28 01.03.19 1.jpg

“As a successful social media journalist with half a million followers, seventeen-year-old Cal is used to sharing his life online. But when his pilot father is selected for a highly publicized NASA mission to Mars, Cal and his family relocate from Brooklyn to Houston and are thrust into a media circus.

Amidst the chaos, Cal meets sensitive and mysterious Leon, another “Astrokid,” and finds himself falling head over heels—fast. As the frenzy around the mission grows, so does their connection. But when secrets about the program are uncovered, Cal must find a way to reveal the truth without hurting the people who have become most important to him.”

This book is extraordinary! I was lucky enough to read this early as my Mum bought me a copy from the US where it has already been released and I loved it. I cannot wait to see this out and about in the UK finally and talk to more people about it! I wrote a review for this over on The Little Contemporary Corner, which you can find here.

The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar

44286258._SY475_ (1)“When Nishat comes out to her parents, they say she can be anyone she wants—as long as she isn’t herself. Because Muslim girls aren’t lesbians. Nishat doesn’t want to hide who she is, but she also doesn’t want to lose her relationship with her family. And her life only gets harder once a childhood friend walks back into her life.

Flávia is beautiful and charismatic and Nishat falls for her instantly. But when a school competition invites students to create their own businesses, both Flávia and Nishat choose to do henna, even though Flávia is appropriating Nishat’s culture. Amidst sabotage and school stress, their lives get more tangled—but Nishat can’t quite get rid of her crush on Flávia, and realizes there might be more to her than she realized.”

This book is receiving positive review after positive review and I am desperate to give it a read. It sounds adorable and is like nothing I’ve ever seen in YA before. I cannot wait to give this one a read, I will be pre-ordering it for sure!

Wonderland by Juno Dawson

48822142._SY475_ (1)“Alice lives in a world of stifling privilege and luxury – but none of it means anything when your own head plays tricks on your reality. When her troubled friend Bunny goes missing, Alice becomes obsessed with finding her. On the trail of her last movements, Alice discovers a mysterious invitation to ‘Wonderland’: the party to end all parties – three days of hedonistic excess to which only the elite are welcome.

Will she find Bunny there? Or is this really a case of finding herself? Because Alice has secrets of her own, and ruthless socialite queen Paisley Hart is determined to uncover them, whatever it takes.”

I adore Juno Dawson’s books and I cannot wait to read this one at all. An Alice in Wonderland re-telling with a difference. Alice the main character is Trans but is keeping this a secret. I’m so excited to read this and see what I think!

Stay Gold by Tobly McSmith

2020-04-12 08.23.36 1.jpg

“Pony just wants to fly under the radar during senior year. Tired from all the attention he got at his old school after coming out as transgender, he’s looking for a fresh start at Hillcrest High. But it’s hard to live your best life when the threat of exposure lurks down every hallway and in every bathroom.

Georgia is beginning to think there’s more to life than cheerleading. She plans on keeping a low profile until graduation…which is why she promised herself that dating was officially a no-go this year.

Then, on the very first day of school, the new guy and the cheerleader lock eyes. How is Pony supposed to stay stealth when he wants to get close to a girl like Georgia? How is Georgia supposed to keep her promise when sparks start flying with a boy like Pony?”

I have a proof copy of this sat on my shelves staring at me whilst I am writing this and I cannot wait to read it. I’ve heard so many amazing things about this book and I want to see other peoples thoughts on it. I will be reading this one very soon!

Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo

43892137._SY475_“Camino Rios lives for the summers when her father visits her in the Dominican Republic. But this time, on the day when his plane is supposed to land, Camino arrives at the airport to see crowds of crying people…

In New York City, Yahaira Rios is called to the principal’s office, where her mother is waiting to tell her that her father, her hero, has died in a plane crash.

Separated by distance – and Papi’s secrets – the two girls are forced to face a new reality in which their father is dead and their lives are forever altered. And then, when it seems like they’ve lost everything of their father, they learn of each other.

Papi’s death uncovers all the painful truths he kept hidden, and the love he divided across an ocean. And now, Camino and Yahaira are both left to grapple with what this new sister means to them, and what it will now take to keep their dreams alive.”

This book sounds absolutely incredible and I cannot wait to read it. Whilst writing this post I have actually pre-ordered myself a copy and I will be reading it as soon as I can. I have heard so many great things about Elizabeth Acevedo’s books and I cannot wait to give this one a go.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

46346381._SY475_It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the 10th annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to out charm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute.

The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined – every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute… and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.”

I am not going to say much about this one other than I am incredibly excited for a Hunger Games prequel and I cannot wait to share my thoughts!

  1. Seems I am yet another person interested in Clap When You Land. Not sure that I’ve heard about this before and it’s not my usual reading style but it interested me.

Some books I’m interested in that are being released this year are Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse (listened to Trail of Lightning and really enjoyed it, will be picking up the sequel eventually) that’s due out in Oct 2020. Of those on my TBR due out this month are:
    Incendiary – Zoraida Cordova
Race the Sands – Sarah Beth Durst (for sure read)
The Book of Koli (Rampart Trilogy, #1) – M.R. Carey
Ruthless Gods (Something Dark and Holy, #2) – Emily A. Duncan (listened to the first (Wicked Saints) last year and really enjoyed)
Navigate Your Stars – Jesmyn Ward

    Thanks for sharing!
