The Reader Problems – Book Tag

Hello all! I hope you are doing well. One of my favourite things to look at on blogs are book tags. I love searching for new ones and reading the answers and I always find it a lot of fun. So, when I stumbled across this book tag I knew I had to give it a go. About to Read on Youtube created this book tag, so be sure to check it out here! This is the reader problems book tag!

You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How do you decide what to read next?

This has very recently changed for me. I used to make a TBR for each month and stick to this. But, now I have started to just mood read. If a book takes my fancy then I pick it up and give it a go. If that book is something I’m not feeling about 50 pages in I put it down and try something else and this is really helping me to read so much more at the minute!

You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed to finishing it?

This depends, if I am exactly halfway through and I’m hating it I stop reading it. If I’m halfway through and I’m in two minds about the book I will give it a few more chapters before I make a decision. If I get to about 70% through a book I’m going to finish that book even if I am not a fan.

The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but also so far away from your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and if so how?

If I am so far away then I don’t push myself. I am not going to force myself to read because it will make me hate reading. I am happy to read how ever much I have read that year no matter the number of books!

The covers of a series you love do not match. How do you deal with that?

I hate when this happens! Publishers, please do not change covers halfway through a series it doesn’t do readers and their shelves any good!

Everyone you can think of loves a book that you really don’t like. Who do you talk to about your feelings?

I would instantly go to my best bookish friends, followed by my boyfriend and then my mum. But, at the bottom of it all if you don’t like a book then you don’t like a book, that is your opinion and everyone has different opinions and that is perfectly fine! Remember that!

You’re reading a book and you’re about to start crying in public. What do you do?

I just stop reading! I don’t mind crying in public but if I can avoiding doing so I will do. Crying at home whilst reading a book I will do that and let the tears flow!

A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the previous book(s)?

It completely depends. If I am incredibly excited about the book then I might re-read the previous novel(s). But, I have to be feeling a re-read of a book. If not then I will read through a plot summary of the previous novel(s) that I can find on the internet to get prepared for the next novel!

You aren’t a fan of letting people borrow your books. How do you politely tell them you don’t want them to borrow your books?

I really do not mind people borrowing my books. My friends and I are always sharing books between one another and I love it. It means we have more to read, we are saving money and can discuss books and recommend books between each other. So, I am way more likely to lend you a book than I am not to and I’m very happy with that.

You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?

If I have been stuck in a reading slump for a while I tend to go back and re-read a favourite of mine. For example, I’ll pick up a graphic novel which I know I’ll love and read that and most of the time that kicks me back into a reading mood!

There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?

Don’t come for me and my book buying ban! I’m such a sucker for buying every single book that I am excited about. Quite often I pre-order books I am excited about but other times I will go into a book store on one of the big release days and leave with a lot of books. I’m just a sucker for books!

After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to read them but how long do they sit on your shelf before you get to them?

Erm…. I might just get round to them all 3 to 4 years later…. I’m so bad at buying so many books and then having them sit on my shelves for a while but I think so many of us are bad at that!

There you have it, that was the reader problems book tag! I’d love to see your answers if you do this tag so be sure to link me to your posts in the comments below!

  1. I have always been one to set TBRs until this year that is. This year I became more of a mood reader while also still kind of sticking to a TBR somewhat with books I need to review. I just started a Bookshelf Challenge last month where I randomly pick 3 books off my shelf but that’s only 3 books the rest I try to mood read. I used to never preorder books but I have started doing that more often. This year I preordered 3 books and I like you will have books sitting on my shelves for years after buying them and they will still be unread,
