Spooky Book Recommendations

I don’t know about you but throughout October, I love to read spooky books! Something about their vibes and Halloween being just around the corner gets me excited. So, now that we are in October I thought I would recommend some spooky books for you to read throughout October! Here they are!

Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.

Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is.) They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1.

But this Halloween is different—Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.

Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: What if—instead of moping and the usual slinging lima beans down at the Succotash Hut—they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .

I read Pumkpinheads every year at Halloween without fail. Although it isn’t particularly spooky it has all the vibes of Autumn and Halloween. I think it is the perfect light-hearted read with spooky vibes to read this October.

YouTube ghost hunting stars, Zach and Lucas, disappeared at an undisclosed location several months ago. Iris – who heads up her own unsuccessful channel with co-hosts Byron and his girlfriend Molly – is obsessed with the duo, and has been searching for the location ever since.

Then, she stumbles across long-abandoned Thornhanger House. The trio set aside their toxic love triangle when they find Zach and Lucas’s abandoned equipment inside … complete with their last day of filming. As they watch the footage, a horrifying truth whatever came for Zach and Lucas is coming for them too …

This is a spooky YA horror that I’m reading at the moment and I can already tell it is going to be excellent. It spooky from the word go and is definitely one you will want to read under a blanket whilst the weather gets autumny!

Marigold is running from ghosts. The phantoms of her old life keep haunting her, but a move with her newly blended family from their small California beach town to the embattled Midwestern city of Cedarville might be the fresh start she needs. Her mom has accepted a new job with the Sterling Foundation that comes with a free house, one that Mari now has to share with her bratty ten-year-old stepsister, Piper.

The renovated picture-perfect home on Maple Street, sitting between dilapidated houses, surrounded by wary neighbors has its . . . secrets. That’s only half the problem: household items vanish, doors open on their own, lights turn off, shadows walk past rooms, voices can be heard in the walls, and there’s a foul smell seeping through the vents only Mari seems to notice. Worse: Piper keeps talking about a friend who wants Mari gone.

But “running from ghosts” is just a metaphor, right?

I read this one a couple of years ago and still remember how scared I was at certain parts throughout the book. It is an excellent haunted horror horror YA which hooked me right away and I would highly recommend it!

When Harriet Stoker dies after falling from a balcony in a long-abandoned building, she discovers a group of ghosts, each with a special power.

Felix, Kasper, Rima and Leah welcome Harriet into their world, eager to make friends with the new arrival after decades alone. Yet Harriet is more interested in unleashing her own power, even if it means destroying everyone around her. But when all of eternity is at stake, the afterlife can be a dangerous place to make an enemy.

If you are looking for a unique YA ghost story, this is the one for you! It has an excellent host of characters and a story that hooks you in right away. Lauren James’ writing is always exceptional, so I would highly recommend this one!

Everyone knows what happened to Alva’s mother, all those years ago. But when dark forces begin to stir in Ormscaula, Alva has to face a very different future – and question everything she thought she knew about her past…

This book is perfect to read around Halloween. When I read this one I literally fell out of my chair in fear at one point. It is extremely spooky and at points quite terrifying. Melinda Salisbury makes the setting of this book feel real and it is one of the reasons I would highly recommend this one!

There you have it, some spooky book recommendations! What books are you hoping to read this spooky season? Let me know in the comments!
