Library Book Haul!

Library Book Haul

I’ve worked in libraries for nearly 5 years now and I’m still not over the fact I can borrow books for FREE! Every so often I come to a realisation I can borrow so many of the books on my wishlist for free. I had that realisation a few weeks ago and it lead to me leaving work with quite a haul. Here are the books I’ve currently checked out of the library!

A woman is born. A woman is filmed in public without consent. A woman suffers domestic violence. A woman is gaslit. A woman is discriminated against at work. A woman grows old. A woman becomes famous. A woman is hated, and loved, and then hated again.

I’ve been seeing this in a lot of bookshops recently and was intrigued by it. Only thing was I wasn’t certain it was a book I was going to love. So, I requested it from the library. I’ve read one of the stories from it so far and it is interesting. I’m looking forward to reading more and seeing if/how they all interconnect.

This is a love story told in reverse. It’s about the best and worst of love: the euphoric and the painful. The beautiful and the messy.

Reeling from a broken heart, Annie Lord revisits the past – from the moment she first fell in love, the shared in-jokes and intertwining of a long-term relationship, to the months that saw the slow erosion of a bond five years in the making.

It is an unflinchingly honest reminder of the simultaneous joy and pain of being in love that will resonate with anyone that has ever nursed a broken heart.

I love reading a non-fiction book every so often but it is rare for me to buy them. Libraries are the perfect place to borrow them. This one has got so many 5 star reviews that I just had to borrow it to see why. I think this is one I’ll read slowly but I’m looking forward to reading it.

Bob Comet is a retired librarian passing his solitary days surrounded by books in a mint-colored house in Portland, Oregon. One morning on his daily walk he encounters a confused elderly woman lost in a market and returns her to the senior center that is her home. Hoping to fill the void he’s known since retiring, he begins volunteering at the center. Here, as a community of strange peers gathers around Bob, and following a happenstance brush with a painful complication from his past, the events of his life and the details of his character are revealed.

Behind Bob Comet’s straight man facade is the story of an unhappy child’s runaway adventure during the last days of the Second World War, of true love won and stolen away, of the purpose and pride found in the librarian’s vocation, and the pleasures of a life lived to the side of the masses. Comet’s experiences are imbued with melancholy but also a bright, sustained comedy; he has a talent for locating bizarre and outsized players to welcome onto the stage of his life.

I can’t lie, I picked this one up purely based on the title. Then I read the synopsis and it sounds like it is going to be a funny fiction book that I’ll have a fun time reading. I’m hoping to pick it up soon.

When Izzy Astor gets on a plane to go home, she isn’t expecting much. It’s the usual holiday travel experience: busy, crowded, stressful.

Then she spots her seatmate, who is anything but ordinary. Nate Phelan sports dark hair, blue eyes, and a deliciously rugged charm that Izzy can’t resist. Their connection is undeniable. Izzy never believed in destiny before, but she does now.

Just ninety seconds after takeoff, their plane goes down in the Missouri River.

Their lives change. They change. Nate goes on to a career in the military while Izzy finds her way into politics. Despite a few chance encounters over the years, the timing never feels right.

Then comes a high-stakes reunion in Afghanistan, where Nate is tasked with protecting Izzy’s life.

I’ve been wanting to read a book by Rebecca Yarros for quite some time and this is the one that has grabbed my attention the most. It arrived in the library a few days ago which had me decided that this is the first book of hers I would try reading.

There you have it, some of the books I’ve borrowed from the library recently. Do you borrow books from the library? If so, what have you borrowed recently? Let me know in the comments below!

Happy Reading
