Recent Reads I’d Recommend

We are nearly halfway through the year and I’ve read quite a lot of books. Some have been good, some have been alright and others have been incredible. So, I thought it would be fun to share some of the the books I’ve read so far in 2024 and would recommend. Here are some recent reads I’d recommend.

Hairstylist Jess Greene has spent the last decade raising her younger half-sister, Tegan – and keeping a shocking secret. The boyfriend her reckless mother ran away with is actually an accomplished con man and subject of a wildly popular podcast, The Last Con of Lynton Baltimore.

Now thirty-one, Jess didn’t bargain on Tegan eventually piecing together the connection for herself. But Tegan plans to do exactly what Jess has always feared – leave their safe, stable home to search for their mother – and she’ll be accompanied by the prying podcast host and her watchful, handsome producer, Adam. Unwilling to let the sister she’s spent so much of her life protecting go it alone, Jess reluctantly joins them.

Together, the four make their way across the country, unravelling the mystery of where the couple disappeared to and why. But soon Jess is discovering other things too. Like a renewed sense of vulnerability and curiosity, and a willingness to expand beyond the walls she’s so carefully built. And in Adam, she finds an unexpected connection she didn’t even know was missing, if only she can let go and let him in . . .

I picked this one up a while back now and I flew through reading it. It has mystery, love, heart-warming moments and moments of pure joy. If you are looking for a wonderful romance which takes you on a road-trip then I would highly recommend this one. I’ve written a full review of this which you can find here.

Something bad happened last night. My best friend Posey is dead. The police think it was a tragic accident. I know she was murdered.

I’ve woken up with the hangover from hell, a stranger in my bed, and I’ve gone viral for the worst reasons.

There’s only one thing stopping me from dying of shame. I need to find a killer.

But after last night, I can’t remember a thing…

I picked this up because my mood reading thought it would be the perfect thing to read next and it was right. It is gripping, fast-paced and hard to put down. It will keep you guessing till the end whilst discussing some difficult yet important topics. I’ve already recommended this to a few people in bookshops or at work and they’ve all left with it! I’d highly recommend picking it up.

Snap’s town had a witch.

At least, that’s how the rumor goes. But in reality, Jacks is just a Crocs-wearing, internet-savvy old lady who sells roadkill skeletons online. It’s creepy, sure, but Snap thinks it’s kind of cool, too.

Snap needs a favor from this old woman, though, so she begins helping Jacks with her strange work. Snap gets to know her and realizes that Jacks may in fact have real magic—and an unlikely connection to Snap’s family’s past.

This is one I picked up on a whim whilst visiting a graphic novel shop in Leeds and I’m so glad that I did. It was an absolute delight to read and I sped through it in one sitting. It has a gripping, unique story and beautiful art throughout. If you are a graphic novel fan, then I cannot recommend this one enough.

Winning the lottery has ruined Opal Devlin’s’s life. After quitting her dead-end job where she’d earned minimum wage and even less respect, she’s bombarded by people knocking at her door for a handout the second they found out her bank account was overflowing with cash. And Opal can’t seem to stop saying yes.

With her tender heart thoroughly abused, Opal decides to protect herself by any means necessary, which to her translates to putting almost all her new money to buying a failing flower farm in Asheville, North Carolina to let the flowers live out their plant destiny while she uses the cabin on the property to start her painting business.

But her plans for isolation and self-preservation go hopelessly awry when an angry (albeit gorgeous) Pepper Smith is waiting for her at her new farm. Pepper states she’s the rightful owner of Thistle and Bloom Farms, and isn’t moving out. The unlikely pair strike up an agreement of co-habitation, and butt-heads at every turn. Can these opposites both live out their dreams and plant roots? Or will their combustible arguing (and growing attraction) burn the whole place down?

If you are looking for the perfect sapphic romance to read this summer, then you don’t need to look any further. It is heartwarming, hopeful, cosy and at times it was steamy. Mazey Eddings is a romance author I feel everyone should give a go. This one in particular is one I was a huge fan of. I’ve written a full review of this one, which you can find here.

There you have it, recent reads I would recommend. What books have you read recently and would recommend? Let me know in the comments!
