UKYA Releases To Look Out For! – Part 2

A couple of days ago I shared a post all about UKYA releases to look out for in 2021. This was after I shared my most anticipated releases for 2021 in two posts (part one and part two). I wanted to shine more of a spotlight on the books being released by UK authors into the UKYA world. There are so many incredible UKYA releases that are being released throughout this year and I really want to spread the word about them!

I’ve split this post into two parts. So, you can find part one of the UKYA releases to look out for here. Now, it is time for part two!

Green Rising by Lauren James

Hester, Theo and Gabrielle have grown up knowing that Earth is doomed. The acceleration of climate changes means that the planet will soon be uninhabitable, and while those who are rich enough can escape to Mars, the rest of the population will be left to their fate.

But in the year that the ice caps finally melt, teenagers around the world begin developing strange powers – the ability to grow plants with their minds. The only hope for reversing climate change seems to lie with these Greenfingers. But there are plenty of profit-hungry organizations who want to use them for their own ends. And not everyone would like to see Earth saved…

This is a climate-change thriller that has me very intrigued. Lauren James has a way of writing thrilling and twisty novels that always captivate me and have me reading non-stop. I can’t imagine that this one will be any different so I am incredibly excited to read this one. Keep your eyes out for it!

Afterlove by Tanya Bryne

Ash Persaud is about to become a reaper in the afterlife, but she is determined to see her first love Poppy Morgan again, the only thing that separates them is death.

Car headlights.

The last thing Ash hears is the snap of breaking glass as the windscreen hits her and breaks into a million pieces like stars.

But she made it, she’s still here. Or is she?

This book isn’t even out yet and it has been receiving nothing but glowing reviews. It is a book people just haven’t stopped talking about and saying is one to watch. So of course I have included this book on the list as it sounds extraordinary and is one that I’m sure will be eye-opening and heart-breaking!

You’re the One that I Want by Simon James Green

As he starts sixth form, Freddie decides that this nice guy isn’t going to finish last any more. No more missing out on parties because he’s got to do his homework. No more saying no when he really wants to say yes. And most of all no more lusting after unobtainable straight boys who enjoy the attention but ultimately break his heart. Freddie embarks on a series of changes designed to transform his social and romantic life, and suddenly he’s a drama darling, getting invited to all the popular kids’ parties, and hot new boy Zach is showing an interest. Life couldn’t be better! But the path to love is never smooth – and Freddie’s about to learn that changing everything about yourself isn’t necessarily a foolproof way of finding the right person…

Simon’s books always make my feel summery and warm my heart. I imagine that this book will make me feel exactly like that. If you haven’t already read a book by Simon James Green then you can expect adorable gay romance, laugh out loud moments and just joy on every page. I cannot wait for this one!

Last One to Die by Cynthia Murphy

16-year-old, Irish-born Niamh has just arrived for the summer, and quickly discovers that the girls being attacked look frighteningly similar to her.

Determined to make it through her Drama Course, Niamh is placed at the Victorian Museum to put her drama skills to the test, and there she meets Tommy: he’s kind, fun, attentive, and really hot! . . . Nonetheless, there’s something eerie about the museum.

As the two strands of present-day serial attacker and sinister Victorian history start to collide, Niamh realises that things are not as they seem. Will she be next?

I love a good YA thriller and this is one I’ve heard excellent reviews about over the last couple of weeks. It has me intrigued and has been described as a whodunnit with slasher-movie feels. I will certainly be keeping my eyes out for this one and think you should too!

The Infinity Files by S.M. Wilson

Ash Yang dreamed of being a starfighter pilot. But when she crashes out of her final test – literally – she somehow lands the most powerful job in the universe. As Guardian of the Infinity Files she must secretly planet-hop through the galaxies, stealing or returning treasures that have the power to stop wars…or start them.⠀
⠀
But when her home planet is the one at war, can she get the job done?

I’ve been excited about this book for what feels like years. It’s release was pushed back because of covid-19 which means I am now beyond excited to finally have it in my hands. I cannot wait to see what this book has to offer and I really recommend you keep your eyes on it too!
