Rapid Fire Book Tag!

I love a good book tag so when I found the rapid fire book tag I knew I had to give it a go! Book tags are such a wonderful way of finding out more about a reader, their reading habits and a whole lot more which I enjoy a lot. I believe this tag originated from GirlReading! So, here is the rapid fire book tag!

E-book or physical book?

I will always gravitate towards a physical book. I just love having a book in my hands, turning the pages and being able to look at a beautiful cover whenever I want. That being said, I do love an e-book for reading in bed or when I am on the move, somewhere like in a queue or on a quick break.

Paperback or hardback?

I love a paperback book. They are easy to transport around, lightweight and just handy. Hardbacks are heavier and can be quite bulky and I am always panicking about damaging the cover of a hardback. But, I will get either if there is only the option of one or the other. Plus, I think hardbacks look at lot more elegant on a shelf.

Online or in-store book shopping?

Nothing will ever beat the feeling of being in a real book shop and picking up the books yourself. I have done a lot more online book shopping over the past year given the pandemic and that has given me more opportunities to support indie book shops that I would not be able to visit easily and I will continue to do this. But, a good shop in a real-life book shop will never be beaten.

Trilogies or series?

I very rarely read either. I am much more of a standalone person because I never want to commit to a series. To be honest there are not many contemporary series out there which is what I would gravitate towards. If I had to pick though I would go with trilogies because at least I know the length of the series.

Heroes or villains?

I love both! I genuinely could not pick between them both. I think it depends what mood I am in when reading as to which I prefer too. I love a good villain story but also a good hero story. Give me either and I’m sure I’ll be happy!

A book you want everyone to read?

The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James which I will never shut up about. I love that book with all my heart and think everyone should read it.

Recommend an underrated book?

Guard Your Heart by Sue Divin only has 150 ratings on Goodreads and an average of 4.33 stars. Do not let the small amount of ratings put you off though, because this book is extraordinary and deserves so much more love. Sue Divin has definitely become one of my auto-buy authors from this book alone and I cannot recommend it enough.

The last book you finished?

This is My Truth by Yasmin Rahman which was a 5 star read!

The last book you bought?

How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie which I have been looking forward to reading for such a long time!

Weirdest thing you’ve used as a bookmark?

I would have to say an entire stack of post-it notes because I was reading whilst on my break at work, lost my actual bookmark and wanted to keep my place whilst I searched for it.

Used books: yes or no?

Definitely! If there is a second-hand book that I want to read and I see it whilst out and about I will get it. I do tend to buy books news but if there is the option of second-hand I will take it!

Top three favourite genres?

Contemporary, mystery/thriller and romance.

Borrow or buy?

Both! I work in a library so have the luxury of being able to borrow books daily. Also, my best friends love reading too so I am always borrowing books from them. I do buy an awful look of books though, so both!

Characters or plot?

A friend recently said to me that finally understood my reading habits when I explained I had to think of the characters in the books I am reading as friends. If I cannot think of a character as a friend my interest in the book dips quite a lot. The book could have a terrible plot but the characters could feel like a best friend to me and I would be very happy. I am still a sucker for an incredible plot though but I will always choose characters over plot.

Long or short books?

I tend to be drawn more towards shorter books but I think that is because contemporary books tend to be on the shorter side anyway. Fantasy books tend to be longer and I think that is one reason I do not pick many up!

Long or short chapters?

Short chapters all the time. I hate having to stop reading in the middle of a chapter when reading so shorter chapters are better for me.

Name the first three books you think of?

  • The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James
  • To All the Boys I’ve Love Before by Jenny Han
  • I Was Born for This by Alice Oseman

Books that make you laugh or cry?

It all depends what mood I am in. I do not cry at books as often as I used to so sometimes it is nice to read a book and have it surprise me with a cry. I do love a good funny book though that will make me laugh out loud!

Our world or fictional worlds?

Our world. I really struggle to get a picture of fictional worlds in my head when reading so often avoid fictional worlds.

Audiobooks: yes or no?

Yes! I listen to them when I am cleaning, driving or whilst I am doing some daily tasks at home. They are an excellent way to read whilst doing other things too.

Do you ever judge a book by its cover?

Sadly, yes all the time. I have bought books solely based off the cover alone before. I am getting better at researching the book first though and basing my judgement on reviews, synopsis and recommendations instead.

Book to movie or book to TV adaptations?

I enjoy both. So, I really have no preference on this one. If they are done well give me either and I will be happy.

A movie or TV-show you preferred to its book?

I think the Normal People TV-show just won me over a tiny bit more that the book did. Do not get me wrong though I adored the book and really connected to it. Just having the characters on screen though made me connect to them a touch more. It has mad me fall in love with Sally Rooney’s writing though!

Series or standalones?

Standalones all the way for me!

There you have it, the rapid fire book tag! I love doing things like this. What are your answers to these questions? Let me know in the comments below or tag me in your posts!
