What Happened in 2021?

It is the last day of 2021 (FINALLY!). I cannot believe that tomorrow we are in 2022. This past year has both dragged and flown by. I really hope that 2022 brings a lot more joy than 2021 did. But, despite all the horrible things that this year has thrown at us all, I thought it would be nice to look back on all the lovely things from my ‘What Happened in?’ posts. I want to see what happened throughout 2021 and what has changed over the months. Here is what happened in 2021!

Line

The year started off in lockdown! I spent the month celebrating David’s birthday, not the way we wanted to but with a delightful Chinese takeaway. I went on a lot of socially distanced walks with my Mum to get myself out and about and stop myself from feeling trapped. Like most people, I spent a lot of time face-timing friends as well. It may not have been the month I was expecting but it was still lovely and I made a lot of memories.

February was another month in lockdown but it was also a month full of nostalgia. I got to work at a library in February that I used to visit as a child. It brought back so many lovely memories. I tested out astrophotography this month and it was a lot of fun.

Also, the final adaptation of the To All the Boys series was released on Netflix. It was such a lovely film and it made me sob and I’ve since watched it over and over again!

Surprise, surprise, lockdown continued this month. I made the most of it though. I had some leave off work which I spent watching telly, reading and going on lots of walks. It felt like a very much needed rest where I switched off from the outside world for a couple fo weeks.

March was exciting because I got the news that I would be starting a new job. I found out I was going to be a Library Manager and would be looking after three of my own libraries. It was a life changing moment!

I celebrated Easter Sunday with my family in my own back garden. We had a lovely meal and did an Easter egg hunt it was just wonderful. Also, I went to a bookstore for the first time in 6 months and it was well needed.

Also, the nest box at the back door of my house got Blue Tits nesting in it which was so exciting. David and I spent many afternoons watching the birds make their nests and look after one another. I finished my job as a Library Assistant in April ready for my move to Library Manager. It was nerve-wracking but exciting.

May consisted of playing dinosaur mini golf with David which was a lot of fun. Also, watching the Blue Tits raise their little chicks in the nest box at the back of my house. I started my brand new job which was an information overload but a whole lot of fun. I ended the month going on a walk with my whole family and feeding goslings it was well needed!

June was a busy month! I started the month by having a week off work. I spent the week doing a lot of things and did not really stop. I went to the zoo and saw some penguins. Then, I met one of the new babies in my family which was wonderful. Then, me and my sister went on the first shopping day in a long while. I went on a couple of walks with my family. And, I ended the week visiting an aquarium that I’ve wanted to visit for a long time!

Finally, I ended the month by spending the day with my best friend . We went to see In the Heights at the cinema which as wonderful. I’ve listened to the soundtrack non-stop ever since. It was so nice to finally have a day out with a friend and I cannot wait for more soon.

July was another busy month for me. I started out the month going to the cinema on my own for the first time. I am beyond proud of myself for doing that because even though it might not seem like a big thing, it is something that I would not have done at the beginning of 2021.

I spent some days with friends, chatting, reading and just having a wonderful time. I love all my friends a lot so getting to spend more time with them again was amazing! Also, I had some shopping days this month. Also, I decided to give BookTok a try. The app is super addictive and just a whole lot of fun. So, if you have the app be sure to give me a follow, @loisreadsbooks!

August was another busy month for me. I posted a TikTok every single day of the month. In the middle of the month I went with a few friends on a weekend away to Scarborough. It was so lovely to spend time with friends, chat, eat delicious things and spend a lot of time reading. It was such a wonderful trip and I hope we can do it again very soon.

I took myself to the cinema again this month. I went on a few days out with my family and we being more decorating of our house!

At the start of September my dog became very ill with pneumonia. It was a very difficult time as we were unsure if she would make it. Miraculously, she pulled through. I went to my first concert since the start of the pandemic. I went to see The Vamps with my sister. We’ve followed the band for almost 10 years so it was lovely to see them again. A week later, I went to see Blossoms too which was incredible.

I had an operation in September, it was a last minute operation and I was not in anyway prepared for how floored I would be afterwards. I had a laparoscopy to help in my diagnosis of Endometriosis. I recovered a lot quicker than I expected but it was difficult few weeks.

October brought my 24th birthday! I spent my birthday on holiday in Scotland with David. We spent a few days in Oban and spent my birthday on the Isle of Mull on the most incredible boat trip. I saw Minke whales and Common dolphins and it was an experience I’ll never forget. It was the best birthday possible.

Also, I went to see Beauty and the Beast with my sister, Mum and Grandma. It was incredible and made me sob. I loved it. I had a lovely day out with friends at the end of the month. We went book shopping, played mini golf and ate some wonderful food. I love my friends a lot and it is always wonderful to see them!

I began the month by having the official confirmation that I passed my apprenticeship with a distinction! After 2 and a half years of stress and hard work I feel like it has finally paid off!

I took a train down to London with my best friend where we went to see MFly. Despite the horrible journey to the O2 arena, we had a wonderful time and it was so lovely to see McFly again. The day after we wandered around London before catching a train back home. After which I rushed to another concert venue to see Thomas Headon with my sister, Katie and her boyfriend, Tom! Although it was a very busy few days it was a lot of fun.

I began December by finding out my boyfriend, David, had broken his nose whilst at work. It was horrible to receive the message about it but he is fine and got on with things like it was nothing at all! I took a trip with my sister and Mum to Manchester for some Christmas shopping and Dutch mini pancakes at the market. It was marvellous and a well needed day out.

Then, Spider-Man: No Way Home came out and I was at the cinema for 9am release day ready and waiting. I won’t spoil anything but is the most incredible film ever and I’ve since watched it again and want to watch it another time in the cinema. Then, I spent the festive period with my family and friends and it was magical. I loved it so much and will cherish the memories forever!

There you have it, that is what happened in 2021! What has happened throughout your 2021? Let me know in the comments below! Happy New Year! I hope 2022 treats you all wonderfully!
