New Releases I’m Excited For – January

Somehow it is time to look at 2024 releases and January 2024 is a month full of amazing new releases. I’m so excited for a whole new year of new books. I wanted to share the ones I’m most excited about in this post. So, here are the new book releases I’m excited for in January!

Beneath the New Year’s Eve fireworks, shy science-nerd Mel and slacker songwriter Sid get pregnant on their first date. Any sixteen-year-olds would expect trouble – but this is Northern Ireland 2018, where abortion is still illegal. Mel’s religious parents insist she must keep the baby, whilst Sid’s feminist mum pushes for a termination. Mel and Sid are determined to do this together, but they soon discover that pregnancy is totally different for boys and girls. When their relationship starts to fall apart under all the pressure, Mel finds herself feeling alone with the impossible dilemma of the Little Bang growing inside her.

I’ve been seeing so many incredible reviews from authors I love about this book. So, of course that has me intrigued and wanting to read this one as soon as possible. I think this one will bring up some extremely important topics too. I’m hoping it will be my first read of the new year.

On paper, Zoe Zeng has made it in New York’s fashion world. After a string of unpaid internships, she’s now a fashion columnist at Chic, lives in a quaint apartment in Manhattan, and gets invited to exclusive industry events.

But life in New York City isn’t as chic as Zoe imagined. Her editor wants her to censor her opinions to please the big brands; she shares her “quaint” ( small) apartment with two roommates who never let her store kimchi in the fridge; and how is she supposed to afford the designer clothes expected for those parties on her meager salary?

Then one day, Zoe receives a job offer at FitPick, an app startup based in Silicon Valley. The tech salary and office perks are sweet, but moving across the country and switching to a totally new industry? Not so much. However, with her current career at a dead end, Zoe accepts the offer and swaps high fashion for high tech, haute couture for HTML. But she soon realizes that in an industry claiming to change the world for the better, not everyone’s intentions are pure. With an eight-figure investment on the line, Zoe must find a way to revamp FitPick’s image despite Silicon Valley’s elitism and her icy colleagues. Or the company’s future will go up in smoke—and hers with it.

I don’t know what it is about this one that has me intrigued but I pre-ordered it immediately. This author’s previous book received a lot of excellent reviews which has me excited to give this one a try. I’m sure I’ll be sharing my thoughts on it soon.

Meghna has tried everything when it comes to dating: blind dates, apps, attempting to drum up conversations with strangers at bars (ew). Everything except arranged marriage.

But then Seth, her best friend and the-one-who-got-away asks her to be his “best man” and suddenly her parent’s taste doesn’t seem so bad . . . Which is how she meets the grumpy but handsome Karthik, who has seen enough of his parents’ relationship to know marriage is not for him.

Turns out, Meghna and Karthik are a match made in heaven (if not the match their parents think they are making) – and a deal is struck. They will be fake-engaged for three months. That way Karthik will get out of the absurd number of arranged set-ups his mother has planned and Meghna will have a date to the wedding from her worst nightmares. But what will happen when the wedding is over? And might they find that what they thought the other was faking could be real after all?

I’ve been seeing a lot about this one online recently which has got me even more excited to give it a read. I don’t think I’ve ever read a fake-engagement book so I’m looking forward to seeing what my thoughts on it will be!

The day of her high school graduation, Riley realizes two things: One, that she has spent the last four years trying so hard to be a Good Kid for her mom that she has no idea who she really is anymore, and two, she has no idea what she wants because of it. The solution? Pack her bags and move to New York for the summer, where her childhood best friend Tom and co-creator of The Getaway List ― a list of all the adventures they’ve wanted to do together since he moved away ― will hopefully help her get in touch with her old adventurous self, and pave the road to a new future.

Riley isn’t sure what to expect from Tom, who has been distant since his famous mom’s scriptwriting career pulled him away. But when Riley arrives in the city, their reconnection is as effortless as it was when they were young―except with one, unexpected complication that will pull Riley’s feelings in a direction she didn’t know they could take. As she, Tom, and their newfound friends work their way through the delightfully chaotic items on The Getaway List, Riley learns that sometimes the biggest adventure is not one you take, but one you feel in your heart.

Emma Lord is one of my go-to authors for cute romance and I feel this one will be just that. I’m a fan of books where the main character is trying to tick items of a ‘bucket list’ of sorts and that is exactly what this one is about. So, I’m excited to give this one a read.

Riley Wynn went from a promising singer-songwriter to a superstar overnight, thanks to her breakup song concept album and its unforgettable lead single. When Riley’s ex-husband claims the hit song is about him, she does something she hasn’t in ten years and calls Max Harcourt, her college boyfriend and the real inspiration for the song of the summer.

Max hasn’t spoken to Riley since their relationship ended. He’s content with managing the retirement home his family owns, but it’s not the life he dreamed of filled with music. When Riley asks him to go public as her songwriting muse, he agrees on one he’ll join her in her band on tour.

As they perform across the country, Max and Riley start to realize that while they hit some wrong notes in the past, their future could hold incredible things. And their rekindled relationship will either last forever or go down in flames.

There has been a little bit of a resurgence of books set around bands and music and I’m so here for it. I’ve read a couple of books by this author pairing and I’ve always enjoyed them. So, I’m excited to give this one a read, even more so with it being set around music and touring.
