We are almost half-way through 2024 which I cannot quite believe. So, I wanted to give the mid-year book freak out tag a go. I’ve been doing this tag for a few years now and I always love looking back on the previous years answers. So, here is the mid-year book freak out for 2024.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2024
I’m going to have to say Snapdragon by Kat Leyh which is a stunning graphic novel. I’d never heard of it before picking it up on a whim and I’m so glad I did as it completely blew me away and I loved it. It has heart-warming moments, moments of joy and is full of stunning artwork. I cannot recommend it enough.
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2024
This one technically isn’t a sequel and more of a companion novel but I have to mention it. It is Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez and I adored it. I loved the characters at the centre of the novel and the look we get at the characters from the previous novels. All three books in the set are well worth the read.
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
I cannot wait to read Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors. I bought it just before going away on holiday and I’m looking forward to reading it vert soon. I’ve seen some amazing reviews for it and I’m looking forward to seeing what I think.
Most anticipated release for the second half of 2024
I am going to have to say Daydream by Hannah Grace. I’m so excited to finally have Henry’s story and you bet I’m reading it the minute my pre-order arrives.
Biggest Disappointment
That would have to be Same Time Next Year by Tessa Bailey. I’d seen so much about it and was excited to give it a read. It wasn’t what I expected and it was a huge disappointment overall.
Biggest Surprise
I think that would have to be The New Seoul Park Jelly Massacre by Cho Yeeun. I’d been drawn into this one by the cover and then the synopsis. I wasn’t sure what to expect from it going in but it completely blew me away. It is creepy, and weird but captivating and I would highly recommend it.
Favourite new author
I would have to say David Nicholls. He is a new author to me this year and I’ve already read two books by him, One Day and You Are Here. I thoroughly enjoyed both of them and I’m sure I’ll be reading more books by him soon.
Newest fictional crush
I don’t have a new fictional crush! Like I’ve said before I do not seem to get crushes on characters from books more so from films or TV shows. But I have no new ones!
New favourite character
Justin from Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez. He is sweet, endearing, caring and I loved him.
Book that made you cry
I’ve only cried at one book this year and that was One Day by David Nicholls. Both it and the TV adaptation made me sob.
Book that made you happy
The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren left me feeling happy. It had me heart-broken at time but it warmed my heart and made me laugh. I loved it.
The most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year
It would have to be The Summer We Crossed Europe in the Rain by Kazuo Ishiguro. It is full of stunning illustrations and is just all round beautiful.
What books do you want to read by the end of the year?
I want to read Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams and Us Against You by Fredrik Backman by the end of the year. I’ve had them both on my TBR for a while now and I’d like to finally read them both.
Favourite book to screen adaptation you’ve seen this year?
That would have to be the tv series of One Day by David Nicholls. It is such a beautiful adaption and left me sobbing. I’d highly recommend giving it a read.
