Mid-Year Book Freak Out!

Now that we are officially half-way through 2021 I wanted to do the mid-year book freak out tag! I always seem to forget about this tag but this year I have not forgotten. Here is the mid-year book freak out!

Best book you’ve read so far in 2021

I cannot give a single book for this so I am going to give two. Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas is not just a favourite for 2021 so far, but of all time. It is such an extraordinary book that I will not be forgetting it anytime soon. Also, This Can Never Not Be Real by Sera Milano is a favourite from 2021 so far. This book is thrilling, heartbreaking and hopeful. I read it so quickly and I cannot recommend it enough.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2021

Heartstopper Volume 4 by Alice Oseman is easy my favourite sequel that I’ve read in 2021. It brought me so much joy whilst I was reading it and I constantly had a huge smile on my face whilst reading. I am already beyond excited for the next volume. The series is so beautiful that I could easily re-read it over and over again.

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

I’m going to say One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston. This book has been on my radar for what feels like forever and I am beyond excited to finally get round to read it. I have already seen some amazing reviews for this one which makes me even more excited to read it.

Most anticipated release for the second half of 2021

It has to be Green Rising by Lauren James. Of course I am so excited for a brand new book by my favourite author. This one sounds incredibly interesting to me and I cannot to to read it and share my thoughts. Bring on September!

Biggest Disappointment

This has to be This Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover. I’d heard so many amazing things about this book so of course I had to give it a read. There are so many reasons that I was disappointed with this book but the writing itself is the biggest point. I could see where this book was trying to go, but it did not do it well. I will have to give another Colleen Hoover book a try soon but this one just was not for me.

Biggest Surprise

This Can Never Not Be Real by Sera Milano was the biggest surprise for me this year so far. I did not know what to expect when going into this book but it was not what I got. I flew through this book and have been recommending it ever since!

Favourite new author

I have to say Emiko Jean as she was one of the authors who surprised me this year. Her book Tokyo Ever After was such a wonderful read and I’ll be getting any other books that she releases in the future. I feel like her books are going to be the perfect pick-me-up that I need quite often when I am reading.

Newest fictional crush

I genuinely do not have a new fictional crush! I do not seem to get crushes on characters from books more so from films or TV shows. But I have no new ones!

New favourite character

I’m going to go with either Evie Thomas from Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon. Or Ishu from Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating by Adiba Jaigirdar. Both characters were such fun to read about and their sarcasm really made me laugh a lot. So, they are both excellent characters that are now some of my favourites.

Book that made you cry

The only book that has made me cry this year was Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon. That book made me sob which hasn’t happened when reading a book for a long time. I cried because I was sad but also because of how hopeful the book made me feel. So, if you are looking for a book to made you sob, I would highly recommend this one!

Book that made you happy

This is not the first time I’ve read this book but my re-read of Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han made me incredibly happy. That book will forever put a huge smile on my face and I could re-read it over and over again. If you are looking for a series to make you happy then this is one for you!

The most beautiful book you’ve bough so far this year

Based on the cover I am going to have to go with The Infinity Courts by Akemi Dawn Bowman. The cover of that book is absolutely beautiful and is one I would certainly have facing out on my bookshelf. It is even more of a bonus that the book inside the cover is also incredible too.

What books do you want to read by the end of the year?

I want to have read Meet Cute Diary by Emery Lee and Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid by the end of the year. I’ve had them both on my TBR for a while now and I’d like to finally get round to reading them.

Favourite book to movie adaptation you’ve seen this year?

I am going to shock people here and not say the third in the To All the Boys series but instead say Cherry. Cherry is a book originally by Nico Walker and it was recently adapted to film and stars Tom Holland. I may be bias about the fact that it stars Tom Holland but genuinely it is an incredible book to movie adaptation that blew me away and I’ll be watching multiple times.

There you have it, the mid-year book freak out tag. How is your reading going throughout 2021? Let me know in the comments below!
